Home of the Month

New primary suite

We knew this project was going to be a blast from the start. Our goal was simple: to bring our client's house to life, and allow it to exude the same energy and charisma as its owners.

A phrase we often use with customers is "Don't forget to fix the weird!" When this comes up, it's in the context of a design-phase discussion where we steer clients away from adding square footage for the sake of adding square footage. Often, not only is it possible, but it’s also more functional and more affordable to get creative and work within the home's existing footprint. Working within the same footprint can be a challenge, however, all parties were up for it!

And this Rumstick Village colonial certainly had some 'weird' to fix!  Prior to the remodel, this home was host to oddly configured bathrooms, cramped closets, and awry design choices masking boatloads of potential.  We reconfigured the upstairs and designed custom-made cabinetry to take advantage of every usable inch. This approach allowed us to add a laundry room with plenty of storage, and create a gracious Primary Suite. Downstairs features a stunning new kitchen, a Farrow + Ball clad mud room, and an unexpected jewel box of a powder room.

One of our favorite things about this project was that our client was not afraid of color and pattern. So we embraced it and did so with a timeless quality that will grow with the home. Some notable finishes included an imported lilac marble sink; classic and quirky wallpapers from Zak + Fox, Morris & Co., and Fornasetti; and floors clad in Moroccan zellige tile and tumbled natural stone. These elements and so many other thoughtful details came together to create elevated, cheery, and historic-feeling rooms.  he result is a home that now serves the lifestyle and personality of this family.
