Meet Your Neighbors: Barrington Artists at Warren's Imago Gallery
From jewelry to painting, sculpture to photography, five Barrington artists help power Imago Gallery’s vibrant community—just in time for the gallery’s holiday Small Works Pop-Up.
Founded over 20 years ago, IMAGO Gallery’s mission is twofold: to sustain its artists’ practices and to welcome the community. Five local residents — Carl Keitner, Lisa Lowenstein, Catherine Moylan, Anne Marie Rossi, and Lenny Rumpler — form the Barrington contingent of the Warren-based gallery. Each has a distinct voice, yet all are part of the shared energy of the community of 20 artists that makes the gallery a regional hub for creativity.
The artwork of our five neighbors includes functional art, jewelry, painting, sculpture, assemblage, photography, interior and graphic design, reflecting a range of practices thriving within IMAGO and offering Barrington residents the opportunity to engage in a wider regional arts dialogue.
At the gallery, new exhibitions open every six weeks and include IFA exhibiting artists’ features, guest artists, juried shows, and the ‘BIG Show’ an annual Community exhibition, an inclusive event reflecting the area’s creative breadth. Each opening is marked by an evening reception where the public can meet the artists and see the work in context in a convivial atmosphere with wine and live music. Many of its artists welcome studio visits and commissions, extending their practice into personal collaborations with collectors and the wider community. The gallery also presents performances, films, and poetry readings, and provides scholarships and support for rising young artists.
This December, IMAGO presents a small works Holiday Pop-Up (December 6 and 7, 12–4pm). With works starting at $20, it offers an accessible way to begin a collection or to give art as a gift. IMAGO Gallery is located at 36 Market St, Warren, home of Imago Foundation for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The foundation is dedicated to providing a platform where
artists and audiences meet, where work is made visible, and where the arts play their essential role in civic life.
Carl Keitner
Carl’s practice spans painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, he describes his work as “functional art” and creates individualized walking sticks and canes—practical objects imbued with heirloom character. His career reflects decades of exploration across media, grounded in curiosity and craftsmanship.
Lisa Lowenstein
Raised in Barrington and later based for 15 years in Rome, Italy, Lisa creates one-of-a-kind jewelry and adornment inspired by ancient archetypes and classical-era proportions. Her works, exhibited in museums and galleries in the U.S. and Europe, merge original design with found objects. For Lisa, the art is not complete without the person inside it.
Catherine Moylan
Catherine works across visual art, interior design, and graphics from her Barrington studio. She studied at the former Art Institute of Boston and creates assemblages from human-made materials that evoke nature’s mystery and disequilibrium. Her visionary works conjure hallucinatory landscapes—magical portals to memory, imagination, and the self.
Anne Marie Rossi
Anne Marie’s practice explores the interplay between the human and natural worlds. Working in oils, encaustic, and cold wax, she creates layered surfaces valued for translucency and depth. Her art, which also includes drawing, mixed media, and sculpture, seeks to evoke resonance between the seen and unseen, the material and the ethereal.
Lenny Rumpler
At 96, Lenny remains Imago’s most senior and beloved member—still creating, still active, still remarkable. His vision and spirit remain true to their origins, even as his process evolves. Ever searching, he continues to experiment and rethink photography, considering himself a student of the medium even now.
