Antonio Leitao worked in the horticultural field in Portugal. He had a business there spraying fruit trees, vineyards, and farmlands. He loved to work outside with the dirt, caring for the trees and land. 

When Antonio and his family arrived in the United States right before the blizzard of '78 hit New England, he didn’t want to give up on his dream of being able to work in landscaping here. His true love was being outdoors. But, at the time, all his other family who were here already were working in factories, so he began to work with them at American Insulator. However, he continued to look for opportunities to get back to landscaping.

His first client lived in Barrington, and he became the caretaker of their land. He continued to work at the factory at the same time, and on the weekends would look for little jobs where he could work helping people in their yards. Eventually, he found enough work that he could do landscaping full-time. 

The company has grown a great deal from its humble beginnings. His sons,  Marty and Tony, began working alongside him. Says Marty about working with his dad, “He did not give me anything. He gave me hard work. That's all he gave. He gave you good work ethic. That's it.” 

But hard work pays off, and when Antonio retired, Marty and Tony were given the family business to own and operate.
