Marine Sergeant Major Beau Rogers
A career of service, sacrifice and adventure!
Sophia, Beau, and Kelly Rogers
When Beau Rogers was 18, he joined the Marines out of love for his country and a deep desire to learn, serve and see the world. 20 years later, as he looks back on a fulfilling yet challenging career coming to an end in August 2025, he got all that he bargained for and so much more.
Beau joined the Marine Corps in July 2004 as an M1A1 Tank Operator. He served in many countries, including a tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Of his time there, he says he anticipated it because it would challenge him to up his game, which it did. “It was very dangerous,” he adds. “We faced constant sleep deprivation, and it was the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do.”
He says he would do it again because of the closeness of working alongside fellow Marines under a unified purpose. It’s a close-knit community, and being there to help his brothers is the “why” that makes Corps life an experience like no other.
Seeing the world
Beau recounts visits to many countries while deployed in two different Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU). An MEU involves being stationed on a ship for six months as part of a task force ready to respond to any crisis, whether it be disaster aid or a combat mission. During MEU duties, the ship stopped at various ports where Marines experienced each country’s culture and traditions. Beau visited places such as Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, Spain, Djibouti, Seychelles, Japan, Australia, and Italy!
A career shift
Beau’s current role is Senior Enlisted Advisor for Recruiting Station Portland, Oregon, similar to a strategic HR manager. He oversees recruitment efforts across 750,000 square miles, including western Washington, Alaska, and Western Oregon. He’s seen solid recruitment numbers in the last few years, a meaningful milestone to cap off the last several months of a rewarding military career.
The Rogers family
Beau, his wife Kelly, and their 15-year-old daughter Sophia settled in Battle Ground almost two years ago to put down roots after being stationed in many different locations. It was an easy pick after Beau was stationed in nearby Yakima and saw all the area offers, such as small-town charm, great schools, and outdoor activities like hiking, camping, biking, and fishing.
So far, the Rogers’ love Battle Ground life and have found the community very welcoming. We’ll add to that. Thank you for your service; we are glad to have you here!
