Meet the New Bedford Chief of Police, Chief Daniel Douidi
This Appointment is the Pinnacle of His 34-Year Career
“Ever since I was a child, I wanted to follow in my Dad’s footsteps in law enforcement,” says Chief Daniel Douidi. “I was in awe of my dad in his uniform for the Manchester Police Department. He was my mentor and someone I looked up to.”
In 1987, Chief Douidi’s dream came true when he became a part-time Special Police Officer for the Manchester Police Department. He beamed with pride the first time he put on his police badge, honored to serve the public. In 1991, he became a full-time officer after graduating from the Police Academy and started working at the Bedford Police Department. “I haven’t looked back since,” smiles Chief Douidi. Through the years, he started as a patrolman before being promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Deputy Chief to Chief of Police in January this year.
“I enjoy making a difference in people’s lives. That’s what I love about this job,” he says. “I enjoy coming to work every day. It’s the best job in the world. Every day is a new challenge.”
Chief Douidi will be ensuring the safety and security of the community as well as the safety of those in law enforcement. He will continue to provide training to make sure that the 65-person team excels in their respective roles.
“I also want to improve our morale, change our culture, and make it a place where someone wants to stay and make it a career HERE after starting here,” he comments. Through his career that spans three decades, he knows what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t. He continues, “The challenges of Police Chiefs today are to continue to work on public trust, recruitment and retention issues.
When not working, you can find Chief Douidi with his wife Cindy, a longtime teacher as a special education coordinator, and their two sons, Alexander and Nicholas. Alexander serves in the US Air Force in Germany and was just assigned to the Presidential Detail in Maryland. Nicholas, a recent graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, will be starting his career in cyber security. To relax, Chief Douidi enjoys traveling, playing golf, and participating in 5K road races.
Congratulations, Chief Douidi, on your recent appointment. Thank you for serving the community!
