How do I choose the right type of program for my school-age child?
We believe parents want to give their children the tools to succeed, not just during the school day but also during their out-of-school time. For over 40 years, New Morning Schools has taken pride in providing a safe and fun after-school option for Bedford families. We offer a flexible drop-in program at all three elementary schools and McKelvie. We also offer IMAGINE, a choice-based enrichment program located at our 23 Back River Road campus.
How do you choose the right program for your school-age child? First, it’s important to understand the differences and similarities between the two programs. As out of school time (OST) professionals, we understand that each child has different needs, likes, and strengths. Within the flexible drop-in and choice-based enrichment programs, children are given the chance to grow and learn with other children and participate in activities. Through play and learning, the children become more self-aware and confident. The OST teams help to guide each child in their growth. Through these journeys, children become more confident and self-aware.
The flexible drop-in program, located at your child’s school, gives the children an opportunity to join a community of friends and peers in a location that is familiar to them. They can enjoy extended time outside on their school’s playground, see their friends, and take part in large group games and projects. Our drop-in program allows for parents to either create a set weekly schedule for their child or use the program on a will-call basis. Either way, you are only charged on the days your child attends.
Our scheduled IMAGINE program encourages children to try new activities, as well as enhance their own natural abilities. At the IMAGINE program, we transport children from their school to the Back River Road campus. The children are given the chance to meet and play with others they may not have the opportunity to see regularly. The choice-based programming allows for smaller group activities with a variety of activities offered at the same time. Activities may include yoga, gym games, climbing wall, arts and crafts, homework time, science exploration, games on our sport court, nature activities, gardening, or time on the outside play structure. Children are given the opportunity to choose the activities they participate in each day, allowing them to pursue what interests them - as a friend group or as an individual.
Whether you choose flexible, budget friendly, drop-in care at your child’s school or the IMAGINE program at our main campus, or a combination of both, New Morning Schools has you covered!
