Let’s be honest: This publisher/author is typically very skeptical about viral recipes. However, Smash Burger Tacos have completely won me over! With Joe Sheehan's culinary and digital creativity, we’ve crafted our own twist on this beloved dish and are thrilled to share it with the Greet Bozeman community. Get ready for a delightful fusion that will elevate your dinner game!
Why choose between burger night and taco night when you can enjoy both?
These smash burger tacos are fully loaded, incredibly tasty, and surprisingly easy to make. Picture this: a thin, crispy beef patty smashed inside a golden tortilla, combined with four simple yet flavorful ingredients: cheese, pickles, onion, and avocado. Our best discovery was choosing Chick-fil-A sauce instead of the usual burger sauce, resulting in one unforgettable taco mash-up! Best of all, you can prepare these delicious tacos in just about 15 minutes. Let’s dive in!
Ingredients for Two Servings:
- 3/4 lb. ground beef: We recommend using 80/20 ground beef for the perfect balance of fat that delivers a crispy, juicy smash burger. Avoid leaner options like 85/15 or 90/10, as they tend to yield dry patties.
- 8-10 slices of Organic Valley Grassmilk Raw Sharp Cheddar Cheese: While cheeses like muenster or provolone melt more quickly, we love this cheddar because it comes from 100% grass-fed cows—never grain-fed.
- A generous amount of thinly sliced bread and butter pickles, chopped: The sweet flavor of bread and butter pickles pairs wonderfully with our taco creation, but feel free to switch to dill pickles if you prefer a tangier bite.
- 1 yellow onion, chopped.
- 1 avocado, chopped.
- 4-6 (6-inch) flour tortillas: Flour tortillas are preferred here as they are more absorbent and help the meat adhere better than corn tortillas.
- Kinder’s ‘The Blend’ Seasoning (salt, pepper, and garlic).
- 1 tablespoon of Stellar pure rendered Grass Fed Beef Tallow: We strongly advise against cooking with seed oils, so this is a great alternative.
- Cast Iron Smashed Burger Press: I found mine at La Cuisine in Bozeman, but you can also grab one on Amazon. After all, Greet Bozeman is all about supporting our local businesses and the community!
- Stainless steel spatula.
Optional Ingredients: Shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes for extra crunch.
Instructions:
- Prepare the Beef: Divide the ground beef into 2½-ounce balls. In a small mixing bowl, roll the ball in the Kinder's seasoning and place it on a separate plate.
- Place your chopped pickles, onion, and avocado separately in three small bowls or small individual piles on your cutting board.
- Heat the Pan: Lightly grease a large skillet with beef tallow over medium-high heat. Be careful not to over-grease—this is key to achieving crispy, juicy beef!
- Cook the Beef: Place one beef ball in the hot skillet and cover it with a 6-inch tortilla.
- Smash and Cook: Use your burger press to firmly smash the beef patty until it’s as thin as possible. Let it cook for 1 minute, then press down again to help the edges get crispy. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until fully cooked through. Check for Crispiness: Use your spatula to gently scrape underneath the burger. If it's browned and crispy, flip the smashed burger onto the tortilla side. Add two cheese slices on top, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and cook for another 2 minutes to melt the cheese and crisp up the tortilla.
- Add Toppings and Serve: Remove the taco from the pan, add your favorite toppings and sauce, and enjoy your culinary creation!
***Pro Tip: Pair these Smash Burger Tacos with Lone River’s Ranch Rita Classic Margarita for the perfect beverage complement. After all, it’s practically a taco party!
