Supporting Our Special Needs Community
A Look at Claremore’s Wildcats

In Claremore, Oklahoma, a dedicated team has been working tirelessly for over two decades to create a nurturing environment for adults in the special needs community. Their mission is to provide a space where these individuals can engage, play, and thrive alongside their peers and volunteers.
Each year, the team organizes a softball league where special needs adults can come together, fostering friendship and sportsmanship. The joy of playing softball extends beyond the game itself; it offers athletes an opportunity to build social skills and form meaningful connections. For many families, including the Willhoite family, this initiative has been life-changing. Their son, an athlete since 2017, has flourished in his ability to interact with peers.
A highlight of the year is the participation in the Oklahoma Special Olympics Summer Games, held at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater from May 14th-16th. This event is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of achievement and community spirit. Thanks to the generosity of local donors, the athletes can participate without bearing any financial burden, allowing them to focus on what truly matters: the joy of competition and camaraderie.
However, the team is always in need of support. They welcome volunteers who can join in as partners during games, helping to foster an inclusive and supportive atmosphere. Additionally, financial contributions are crucial to ensure that all athletes can participate in events without cost.
You can often find the team at local events, sharing information and spreading awareness about their mission. If you’re interested in getting involved, whether through volunteering or donations, Coach Willhoite encourages you to reach out at 918-639-9431 or visit their Facebook page for more information at Cats with Bats SOOK (Claremore Wildcats Special Olympics).
We have a unique opportunity to support and uplift our special needs community by engaging with this dedicated team. By working together, we can create a more inclusive environment where everyone has the chance to shine. Let’s make a difference!
