Light of Hope: A Beacon of Support in Claremore

Providing Hope, Healing, and Help to Claremore for Eight Years and Counting

Light of Hope, a dedicated non-profit organization in Claremore, has become an essential support system for many in the community. Founded to assist individuals facing various challenges, it provides help to grieving parents, spouses, veterans, and those in recovery. The organization has profoundly impacted those it serves.

Initially focused on addiction recovery, Light of Hope recognized that the need for support extended beyond this area, prompting an expansion of its services. As it celebrates eight years of service on September 29th, the organization offers support groups to cater to diverse needs. One group is a general encouragement session that meets every Thursday night from 6:30 to 7:30. Community members can find more information about additional support groups on their website, www.lightofhopeinc.org.

A core value of Light of Hope is ensuring that everyone knows they have a safe space to turn to. The organization aims to provide a non-judgmental environment where individuals can confront their challenges with support. As stated by the organization, its goal is “to let everyone in the community know they have a confidential, non-judgmental, open, and safe space to help face these difficult realities.”

Light of Hope also partners with local programs, collaborating with the Rogers County District Attorney's Office and the DEA to promote substance abuse awareness and education in schools. This proactive approach has been crucial to their mission. In recognition of its contributions to drug prevention, Light of Hope received the DEA National Community Drug Prevention Award in 2020.

The impact of Light of Hope is evident in its crisis response. Following the devastating tornado in Claremore in April, the organization mobilized quickly to provide assistance. Board member Cindy baked cookies and personally delivered them to affected areas, offering comfort amidst chaos. Her efforts, along with those of the entire team, were described as “beyond words” by those they helped.

In addition to immediate relief, Light of Hope initiated “Tornado Relief Efforts,” collaborating with Mercy Chefs to provide up to 800 meals daily. They distributed essential supplies and used ATVs to reach hard-to-access homes. After Mercy Chefs concluded their support, Light of Hope continued its relief efforts at Eastern Baptist Church, serving lunch and dinner for 250 people daily. The organization appreciated the support from Eastern Baptist Church and the generous donation from the Cherokee Nation.

Operating without state or federal funding, Light of Hope relies on donations and volunteers to sustain its programs. Community members can contribute through the donation portal on their website. Volunteers are always welcome, with various opportunities to assist, including events and office support. Additionally, Light of Hope’s 5:14 donor campaign, inspired by Matthew 5:14—“You are the light of the world”—encourages monthly support.

To celebrate its eight-year milestone, Light of Hope’s Board President, Steve, led a rebranding initiative that included designing a new logo symbolizing the organization’s refreshed vision. In summary, Light of Hope’s journey to becoming a cornerstone of support in Claremore reflects its unwavering dedication and the community’s collaborative spirit. Through diverse programs, crisis response, and ongoing support, Light of Hope continues to significantly impact many lives, embodying its mission to provide a safe and supportive space for all.
