So You Broke Your New Year’s Resolution…

Good. Now let’s get ready for summer.

Let’s be honest. If you set a New Year’s resolution to get fit, lose weight, or finally “get serious” about your health, there’s about a 90% chance it didn’t survive January. And that’s okay. Failure isn’t the problem. Quitting is. The calendar doesn’t care when you start. And neither does your body.

The good news? Summer is coming. Longer days. More sunshine. More movement. More motivation. This is the perfect time to regroup—not with guilt or extremes—but with a smart, sustainable plan.

Here are my top 10 ways to get fit and trim by summer, from a holistic physician who cares about real results—not quick fixes.

1. Stop Punishing Yourself and Reset the Mindset
Most people don’t fail because they lack discipline. They fail because they try to change everything at once. Forget January. Today is Day One. Progress beats perfection—every time.

2. Walk Every Day (Yes, It Still Counts)
Walking is wildly underrated.
• Low stress
 • Low injury risk
 • Improves insulin sensitivity
 • Boosts fat burning
 • Supports mental health
Aim for 7,000–10,000 steps daily, preferably outdoors. Sunlight + movement = medicine.

3. Lift Heavy Things (At Least Twice a Week)
Muscle is metabolic currency. Resistance training:
 • Raises resting metabolic rate
 • Improves insulin sensitivity
 • Protects joints and bones
 • Preserves independence as we age
You don’t need a gym—just consistency and progressive overload.

4. Eat Protein Like It Actually Matters (Because It Does)
Most people under-eat protein and over-eat everything else. Target 0.7–1 gram per pound of ideal body weight daily.
Protein:
 • Controls appetite
 • Preserves muscle
 • Improves fat loss
 • Stabilizes blood sugar
Build every meal around it.

Closing Thoughts
You didn’t fail. You learned. And now you’re wiser, more aware, and perfectly positioned to move forward. Summer doesn’t reward extremes. It rewards consistency. Start today. Keep it simple. And remember—your body is always listening. As always, thank you for inviting me along on your health journey.
