A Journey from Passion to Practice

Roots in Long Island, Growth in Virginia

Drs. Eleni Boosalis and Lauren Fisher.

Dr. Lauren Fisher was born and raised in Long Island, New York, but her journey led her to Virginia for her education. Inspired by her father’s love for history and their visits to the Washington, D.C., area, she attended Mary Washington College and later the American School of Professional Psychology. "I always loved visiting this area growing up, and it felt natural to build my life and career here," Fisher said.
A Calling in Mental Health
Fisher was fascinated by the complexities of the human mind from an early age, particularly conditions like schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder. Witnessing loved ones struggle with mental health issues and heal through therapy fueled her passion. "Seeing the power of therapy firsthand really cemented my desire to help others," she said.
Though she always envisioned a career in psychology, she said, "I would like a job that included traveling around the world, experiencing new cultures, and finding ways to help people in different ways."
An Unexpected Entrepreneurial Path
Fisher never expected to become an entrepreneur. She started as a solo practitioner before founding Del Ray Psych & Wellness and the Wellness Junction. "I never thought I’d be a business owner, but creating a workplace I love and a team of dedicated therapists and wellness professionals has been so rewarding," she said.
Starting and expanding her business took persistence and courage. "There were moments of doubt, but pushing past that fear allowed me to create something truly special that will hopefully have a lasting impact on the community," she said.
Building a Wellness Hub
In 2018, Fisher and her partner purchased a building in Del Ray, solidifying their roots in a neighborhood already known for wellness. "Del Ray has always felt like home, and planting roots here made perfect sense," she said. The area hosts multiple wellness collectives, fitness and yoga studios, mental health therapists, acupuncturists, and other specialists. To strengthen this network, Fisher helped create the Wellness District, a collaborative initiative within the Del Ray Business Association. "We have such a strong, supportive community, and it’s amazing to see wellness professionals working together."
The Well Ray Festival and Community Engagement
Fisher is deeply involved in her community, organizing charity fundraisers and advocating for small businesses. She also helped grow the Well Ray Festival, an annual event showcasing local wellness businesses, fitness classes, and family-friendly activities. "This festival is a great way to bring people together and celebrate well-being," she said. The next event is set for May 17, 2025.
A Shared Vision: Dr. Eleni Boosalis
Dr. Fisher’s partner in the practice, Dr. Eleni Boosalis, brings her own passion and expertise to Del Ray Psych & Wellness. "I’m a true Washingtonian, born in Georgetown to Greek immigrant parents," Boosalis said. She pursued her education at George Mason University, George Washington University, and the American School of Professional Psychology’s D.C. campus.
Her interest in psychology was sparked during her senior year of high school, and she has been captivated by human behavior ever since. "If I had to choose another career, I’d likely explore civil rights law or another healing profession like Chinese medicine," she said.
Boosalis’s proudest accomplishments include earning her doctorate, establishing a wellness center, and being a mother. "Helping others heal, grow, and live authentically is my core purpose," she said. In her free time, she enjoys reading historical fiction, traveling, running, practicing yoga, and relaxing at home.
Looking Ahead
Fisher and Boosalis remain dedicated to expanding mental health services in Del Ray. Future plans include growing their Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy program, training clinicians in advanced trauma therapy techniques, and launching a multi-day healing retreat. "I never thought I’d have a group practice or a West Coast office, so who knows what may come next!" Fisher said.
