SIGNATURE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

A Legacy of Community and Commitment

In the heart of Del Ray, where small-town charm meets modern convenience, Signature Federal Credit Union (SFCU) stands as a testament to the power of community. What began as a modest financial institution created by and for postmasters has grown into a cornerstone of the neighborhood, offering personalized financial services that make a difference in the lives of its members.

CREATED BY AND FOR POSTMASTERS
Signature FCU's story is one of transformation and growth. Founded by a group of visionary postmasters who sought a better way to manage their finances, the credit union quickly became a trusted financial partner for its members. Over the years, the organization evolved, expanding its services and membership. In 2015, the credit union was rebranded as Signature FCU, a name that reflects its commitment to leaving a lasting impact on the community.

THE MOVE TO DEL RAY
The decision to establish roots in Del Ray came in 1989 when Signature FCU purchased a larger building to accommodate its growing operations. This move was more than just a real estate decision; it was a commitment to becoming an integral part of the Del Ray community. Located at 12 Herbert Street, the credit union’s presence in the area has been marked by its active support of local businesses and community events. SFCU's ATM, conveniently located on Mt. Vernon Avenue next to the UPS store, is just one example of its commitment to accessibility and convenience for its members.

LEADERS WITH A VISION
Paula Hoelzel, the current CEO of Signature FCU, is a shining example of the dedication that defines the credit union. Paula’s journey with SFCU began in 1982, and over the years, she has worked in nearly every department within the organization. Her deep understanding of the credit union's operations and her unwavering commitment to its members culminated in her appointment as CEO in 2021. Under her leadership, Signature FCU continues to thrive, staying true to its founding principles while embracing the future.
“Join your neighborhood credit union and experience the difference,” says Paula, highlighting the personalized service and member-focused approach that sets Signature FCU apart from other financial institutions. For Paula, leading SFCU is more than a job; it’s a passion rooted in decades of dedication to the credit union and its members.
Nick Somers, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer, shares Paula’s commitment to excellence. Nick joined Signature FCU in 2006 and has held various roles in membership, marketing, and business development. His diverse experience and forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in shaping the credit union’s growth strategy. Like Paula, Nick's leadership has been marked by a deep commitment to the members and the community.
“At SFCU, our commitment to our members goes beyond just banking. We strive to provide personalized service, competitive rates, and low fees,” says Nick. His words encapsulate the essence of what Signature FCU represents: a financial institution that is dedicated to meeting the needs of its members while supporting the broader community.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Signature FCU’s involvement in the Del Ray Business Association and its support for local events further solidify its role as a community partner. Whether it's sponsoring neighborhood gatherings or providing convenient financial services, Signature FCU is more than just a credit union; it’s a vital part of what makes Del Ray a great place to live and work.
As Signature FCU continues to grow and evolve, its commitment to the community remains steadfast. With leaders like Paula Hoelzel and Nick Somers at the helm, the credit union is well-positioned to serve its members and support the Del Ray community for many years to come.
