As an Alden descendant, on both sides of my family, I knew early on that I needed to work for myself and work outside.  After graduating from Duxbury High School in 1980, I went to Umass Amherst.  At that time, I had been working in the bay as a shellfisherman with my older cousin.  When the bay was frozen, however, we turned to the woods to cut firewood and I knew then that I wanted to work with trees. I swiftly transferred to the Forestry program.

On a summer break, I took a job with a local Arborist who taught me a tremendous amount and led me to furthering my focus on Arboriculture: the care of trees and shrubs.  In 1984, I started my company Treesmith and have been pruning Duxbury’s trees ever since.

There are so many beautiful trees throughout this town, but for many, there is simply one perfect tree: the Linden.  It is located where it can be clearly seen in the distance and has continued to grow both in size and popularity.  When I first started pruning this tree, I could do so simply with an orchard ladder.  After three decades of thinning and tip pruning, it now requires a specialized 70-foot aerial lift.

I am always honored when someone entrusts me with the care of their specimen tree, but I've worked on this one annually for over three decades. We owe a special thank you to the current and previous owners, the Casos and the Halls, for continuing its upkeep over the years.
