Prep Rally Tutoring

As a respected and experienced English teacher for 25 years, Caitlin Volovlek knows that the right questions, high expectations, and personal attention can transform the stressful application process. Her passion is guiding seniors to craft meaningful and memorable college entrance essays.

For more than 20 years, Caitlin taught AP Literature and Composition, a rigorous college-level course that centers critical reading, writing, and thinking skills.  “One of the most challenging and meaningful experiences I’ve had in my career is training as a Reader for College Board—the professional development deepened my understanding of how to teach writing,” says Caitlin.

While Caitlin has prepped hundreds of students for the AP Lit. exam, her niche is encouraging seniors to craft expressive and competitive entrance essays. “Applying to college is fraught with stress, but I’m certain I can alleviate some of the pressure,” says Caitlin. While many of Caitlin’s clients have earned admittance to top-tier universities like Michigan, Brown, and Stanford, she’s also had clients whose final essays have played an integral role in securing large scholarships.

“Composing this essay is a unique writing experience,” says Caitlin. “Many students can write analytically, but creative storytelling is an art. Self-reflection and finding one’s authentic voice are crucial when crafting this high-stakes narrative. It’s challenging to write personally, especially when the stakes (and emotions) are so high. Essentially, this is the most important essay that seniors will write in high school—it’s the one piece of the holistic application package that distinguishes your child from all the other applicants.”

With deadlines around the corner, it’s critical to begin the process early. “This essay demands multiple revisions,” says Caitlin, “so it’s crucial to reserve time to draft and craft. My feedback will help your Senior create a compelling story with emotional resonance and voice; then, we will edit and shape the draft into a final masterpiece!”
