Meet Vox: Fair Oaks Ranch’s Newest (and Furriest) Officer

There’s a new face at the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department—and this one has four legs and a wagging tail. Vox, a German Shorthaired Pointer, is the department’s newest K9. He’s already bringing smiles to the community and working hard to become a helpful part of the team.
Vox isn’t your average police dog. He was brought to Fair Oaks Ranch through a special program with the TSA. What made him stand out wasn’t just his skills—it was his friendly and calm personality. When Officer Magness first met Vox, they connected right away.
Officer Magness knows a thing or two about connecting with his K9 partners. Magness has served as the department’s K9 handler for the past seven years. His previous partner, K9 Buddy, retired in May after a dedicated seven-year career and 134 deployments. Together, they worked dozens of successful cases and built strong relationships in the community. Now, Magness is excited to begin a new chapter with K9 Vox by his side.
K9 Vox will help in two big ways: search and rescue, and community events. Because Fair Oaks Ranch is a rural area with many older residents, having a dog trained to find people who are lost is very important. At the same time, Vox will spend a lot of time meeting people at events and schools, helping build trust between the police department and the community.
K9 Vox has already started showing up at schools and local events, where he’s made a big impression. Officer Magness describes him as a “love bug” who enjoys hugs, attention, and meeting new people. Kids and adults alike can’t get enough of him.
Right now, Officer Magness and K9 Vox are going through training together. They’re learning how to work as a team, and they’re together almost all the time. This helps them build a strong relationship, which is important for search and rescue work.
Officer Magness is no stranger to animals—he lives with six dogs, plus cattle, goats, and sheep. He says his animals are like kids to him, so working with Vox feels like a perfect fit.
K9 Vox is already becoming a local favorite, and Officer Magness believes he’ll be a great addition to the city. So, if you see a furry officer walking around town, be sure to say hello. Just be ready—he might ask for a hug!
