Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhoods Unite for Holiday Food Drives
Volunteers from Cibolo Trails gather around a portion of the donated food items from their subdivision.
Residents and volunteers from Deer Meadow, Deer Meadow Estates, and Cibolo Trails combined efforts on Saturday, October 26th, to collect nearly 2000 lbs. of food for needy families in the area. The 350 households located in the adjoining neighborhoods of DM & DME came together to help those in need for the 17th consecutive year. Since 2008 the combined subdivisions have contributed over 28,000 lbs. of non-perishable food items. Meanwhile, in nearby Cibolo Trails, a community of 144 homes, 750 lbs. were collected the same day in the third year of its annual holiday season food drive.
The items were collected and delivered by the same team of volunteers to the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries in nearby Boerne. HCDBM is a regional resource center that collaborates with local agencies, churches, and ordinary people, to help make a difference in the lives of people in poverty. Food is a critical element of that effort especially during the late year holiday seasons.
The charity food drive for DM/DME was coordinated by Sue & John Pennock, and neighborhood volunteers included Etta & Glenn Valdes, Gena & Karl Fredrickson, Carmen & Greg Buschmann, Bev Miller, and Ronda Nugent. In Cibolo Trails, Mary Borden was the Coordinator and she was assisted by fellow volunteers Julie Gossell, Connie Williams, Kathy Hubbard, Janet Deltuva, Candi Robinson, Susan Oswald, and Brenda Tallmon.
