Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries Launches Campaign to Feed Thousands of Local Children
Founded more than 25 years ago, Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries serves over 80,000 individuals annually across eight Hill Country counties. Their mission is rooted in long-term, Christ-centered transformation. Through emergency food relief, family mentoring, stand by me youth mentoring, and partnerships with more than 125 nonprofits, HCDBM equips local communities to fight poverty with compassion and strategy.
When the final school bell rings in May, summer joy should begin for all children. But in the Texas Hill Country, for thousands of kids, that sound marks the start of a different season—one filled with empty lunch boxes and growling stomachs. In a region known for its scenic beauty and small-town charm, a quieter crisis persists: summer hunger.
This year, Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries (HCDBM) is once again stepping up to confront this reality through its Summer Hunger Campaign. The Boerne faith-based nonprofit is calling on the community to help provide 35,000 kid-friendly meals to children in need—meals that will help bridge the nutrition gap that opens when school cafeterias close for the summer.
In Kendall County, nearly 1 in 5 children experience food insecurity. In surrounding rural counties like Bandera and Kerr, the rates are even higher—often worsened by limited transportation, few grocery options, and high living costs.
You Can Help!
Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries has developed a multifaceted approach to make sure families do not have to choose between nutritious meals for their children or paying critical bills. “Last summer, getting those food bags felt like Christmas in July,” shared Maria, a local mother. “My kids saw faith in action.”
