Passing the Torch: Welcoming Katie Gray

It is my joy and honor to announce Greet Fair Oaks Ranch’s newest member: Katie Gray. She will be our new Resident Writer for the “Kids and Athletes” portion of the magazine! Since I am soon leaving Fair Oaks Ranch to attend college in the fall, I am passing the torch to Katie, and there is no one else that is a better fit for this position. Let me tell you a little bit about this talented young writer!

Katie has lived in Fair Oaks Ranch since she was three years old, so she is definitely not new to the wonderful aspects of this city. “I used to bike around the neighborhood all the time. I’ve enjoyed living in a beautiful place with a welcoming community,” Katie said. She’s loved living close to friends, enjoying coffee and ice cream at the local shops, and getting to know her neighbors more, especially those with whom she attends school.

Katie is a sophomore at the Geneva School of Boerne and has been there since she was in kindergarten. Involved in a myriad of academic, athletic, and creative endeavors, Katie truly is a well-rounded and hard-working student. She is dedicated and passionate about her activities and is a person you can trust with any task with the knowledge that she will do everything to the best of her ability. Katie has played volleyball since she was in middle school and competed at the varsity level both as a freshman and sophomore. She is eagerly anticipating her junior season and can’t wait to be an upperclassmen leader on the team.

Not only will she take a leadership position on the court, but Katie also excels on the Geneva Quarterly staff and will take the position as Editor of the Editorial staff next fall. Geneva’s very own magazine is blessed by her wit and ability to think deeply. She has been a vital component to the editing, composition, and morale of the Quarterly and will only continue to improve this publication. Her natural ability as well as her passion for words is evident in her writing. Katie said, “I love figuring out new ways to express a feeling or idea through writing. It's really fun to be creative while using my brain, making something out of nothing.” There is no doubt she will excel in both the Quarterly and Greet Fair Oaks Ranch magazine this upcoming year. Having played volleyball with Katie and worked on the Geneva Quarterly with her the past two years, I can attest to her selfless leadership, humble demeanor, and God given talent.

Katie is also a community servant. She is a member of the Boerne-Fair Oaks Chapter of National Charity League, serving in a wide variety of philanthropies and leading her grade level yearly. She also supports AugustHeart, which provides free heart scanning for San Antonio teens. This organization found that Katie had an irregular heart arrhythmia and this free screening saved her life, so she wants to ensure as many people know about it as possible.

I am blessed to be in school with Katie, as well as having played sports and written articles alongside her. She is a friend to all, kind, intelligent, and servant hearted. I cannot wait to read her upcoming articles and witness how she uses her talents to highlight the amazing things happening in our neighborhood!
