Meet Ralphie Packard, "Mr. Hershey"

Ralphie Packard with Melissa Miller

How long have you and Ralphie lived in the area? What do you like most about living here?
We've lived in Hershey for 5 years and it is such a unique experience, with the tourist attractions, rich history, and sense of family all mixed together. There’s always something happening—live music, great restaurants, and little events that make the town feel alive. It has the energy of a bigger city with endless things to do, but still carries the warmth and charm of a small town, where people know each other and take pride in calling it home, especially now with a four-legged best friend.

What is Ralphie's age and breed/type?
Ralphie is a 2 year old Male F1 Mini Aussie Doodle with a striking Blue Merle Tri Tuxedo coat. “Tri” means his fur carries three colors—black, white, and tan—with a distinct tuxedo-like pattern. The merle gene gives him a marbled, patchy appearance across his coat, while his white “boots” on his front paws and legs make him look like a Fine Distinguished Gentleman. One of Ralphie’s most unique features is his pointy ears. Most Aussie Doodles have floppy, rounded ears, but Ralphie’s stand straight up. As a puppy, only his right ear stood tall while the left flopped down. Then, on his six-month birthday, his left ear decided to join in—so now he proudly sports two pointed ears!

Is there a story behind Ralphie's name? How did you come up with it?
Ralphie’s name is a mix of holiday cheer and vintage charm. He’s named after Ralphie from A Christmas Story—because just like the movie character, he’s a little mischievous, full of personality, and it truly felt like Christmas morning the first time I held him. His middle name, Packard, comes from my lifelong love of cars, especially the classics. Ever since high school, I’ve been attending car shows and even had the chance to appear in an AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) promo video for the Hershey swap meet and love to attend the auction, so one day we can be proud owners of a Packard.

What's do you think makes Ralphie stand out from other dogs?
Ralphie’s signature look? Pointy ears.
His party trick? Hopping like a kangaroo.
His vibe? Basically a human in dog form.

Are there any local businesses or parks Ralphie particularly enjoys visiting?
Hidden Still Spirits patio—water bowls, a doggy sniff zone, and plenty of friends to say hi to.

Where does Ralphie love to hang out in the area?
Every Friday, Ralphie can’t wait to go to "school" for playtime with his friends at Playful Pups Retreat—it’s the highlight of his week. He also loves long walks, especially by the Hershey Country Club, where he’s always on the hunt for a stray golf ball.
