4 Tips to Start Fresh Anytime
Have you ever found yourself wanting to make a life change, but felt unsure about whether or not you could actually pull it off? Maybe it’s a change you need to make for your health, or one you’ve been dreaming about for years, like moving to a new city. The desire for a reset can show up any time, not just in January or at the turn of a season. I’ve recently gone through a major life change myself, and I’m all too familiar with the feelings of excitement, doubt, hope, and fear that come along with it.
Earlier this year, I experienced my own big reset when I left a 12-year career in corporate tax accounting to start my business, The Wardrobe Staple. Now, I help women create outfits they actually want to wear without starting from scratch, so they can show up confidently for any occasion. From making that leap myself to guiding women through their own style transformations, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to start fresh, no matter what part of life you’re focusing on.
- Get clear on the goal you want to achieve
- Ex. Strength train at least 3x/week for the next 3 months.
- Write down your reasoning for making the change. Understanding why this change is important to you will help you keep going on the days it feels tough. Writing it down helps your brain commit it to memory. Keep your note somewhere that you can see it every day.
- Ex. Strength training will make my body stronger and improve my mental clarity. It’s important to me because I want to remain active and physically fit as I get older.
- List out all of the steps or milestones necessary to meet your goal.
- Ex. Find a trainer to work with once a week; purchase equipment that I can use to train at home; designate time on my calendar to exercise; secure childcare for this time
- Create mini daily, weekly, or monthly goals to help you achieve your ultimate goal. Breaking it down into smaller steps helps to make your ultimate goal feel manageable and attainable.
- Ex. Weekly goal: record exercises completed/progress made from the current week’s 3 workouts.
A reset doesn’t have to wait for a new year, a milestone birthday, or even a Monday. You can decide to start fresh any time you choose.
