Pennsylvania's School Counselor of the Year

The Chandra and VonStein families

Diana (VonStein) Chandra was born and raised in Hershey where she lived with her parents, Paula and Dale VonStein, until age 23. Her parents still reside in Hershey, and although she now lives in Mechanicsburg, Diana and her three young daughters spend most of their weekends in Hershey with “Nonna and PopPop.”
Diana earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2011 and her master’s degree in School Counseling from Loyola University Maryland in 2016.
In 2025, Diana was named the 2025–2026 Pennsylvania School Counselor of the Year by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association (PSCA) at its 70th annual conference in State College, PA. Her school counseling program at Camp Hill Middle School also received the PA Diamond Award and will be honored with ASCA’s Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation in July 2026 for its comprehensive, data‑driven approach and alignment with best practices.
Pennsylvania is currently the only state that does not require comprehensive school counseling services or mandated counselor positions in schools. In March 2024, the Pennsylvania House passed the School Counseling Services Act (H.B. 1665), which would require comprehensive counseling services and ensure counselors spend at least 80% of their time supporting students directly and indirectly. Although the bill is still under review by the Senate Education Committee, Diana remains hopeful for positive changes in the field.
Diana’s appreciation for safe, close‑knit communities influenced her decision to work in Camp Hill, a small town where the middle school serves just over 300 students.
Now raising three daughters ages 7, 5, and 3, Diana continues to enjoy walking to Hershey Park from her parent’s home, sharing her love of Hershey’s other attractions and walkable neighborhoods with her children, and carrying forward the joyful childhood experiences that have shaped her own life.
