Fahenstock family roots in Hershey

Hello, Hershey! My name is Dane Fahnestock, and I was born and raised in Hershey and so blessed to continue to live, raise a family and run my businesses in this area.
I'd love to introduce my wonderful family. My wife, Sarah, is also a local who went to Middletown High School where she was a standout athlete in both soccer and basketball. She continued her soccer career at Millersville University, competing in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. After graduation, Sarah found her calling in education and spent several years teaching in the Central Dauphin School District. Now she teaches 6th grade applied math at Milton Hershey School, where she gets to combine her love of learning with helping kids discover their potential.
Our older daughter, Kenley, just turned 10 in August. She's inherited her mom's athletic genes and loves soccer, basketball, and golf. When she's not on the field or course, you'll find her reading--she's a voracious reader and loves Pokémon. Our youngest is Kira, who's six and full of energy. Like her sister, she enjoys soccer and basketball, but her real passion is dancing. She lights up when she's performing for us at home, and she's incredibly nurturing, always taking care of her dolls and making sure they're all properly looked after. And our newest family member, Socks - our 9-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog. She's already become an essential part of our family adventures, whether we're out on walks or just relaxing at home where she contentedly chews on her collection of bones.
I'm originally from right here in the Hershey area - born and raised. Sarah has a bit more of a journey to her story - she was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Moved around a bit with her dad's job before they settled in Middletown when she was young, which is where she grew up and went to high school. The funny thing is how Sarah and I met: it was at a construction kickoff event for a project my company was working on at the time. We were remodeling a large daycare facility, and there she was. Sometimes the best things happen when you least expect them! After we got married, Sarah really wanted to move back to the neighborhood where she grew up. That was six years ago now, and it's been wonderful raising our girls in the same community where Sarah has those childhood roots.
I run D56 Construction, which I established in 2019. The name holds special meaning for our family - it's named after my grandfather who attended and graduated from the Milton Hershey School in 1956. Just like he stayed in the area and gave back, I am as well. I recently opened the D56 Construction showroom in Hummelstown, and there's something special about its location. It's on the same street where my grandmother opened her jewelry shop back in 1995. Having my business there feels like we're continuing a family tradition of entrepreneurship and community involvement that spans generations. It's been incredibly rewarding to build something here in the area where we're raising our family.
Our family has a lot of special things that make us tick. Sarah is an incredible cook. She worked at a catering company in Middletown throughout high school and her college years, so she really knows her way around the kitchen. She's also exceptionally talented at arts and crafts, including chalkboard drawing for restaurants. Kenley's superpower is her reading. She cannot read enough books! Kira has this amazing nurturing ability with her six baby dolls. She keeps them all clothed, fed, and makes sure their beds are perfectly in order. Socks is the ultimate snuggle buddy for everyone in the family. She has this natural ability to comfort whoever needs it most.
We hit up some local family favorite spots during a night off: Chocolate Avenue Grill for lunches and dinners, Hershey Fresh Market after Saturday soccer games, Jojo's Pizza in Hummelstown. We love spending time at the Hershey Country Club, which creates a lot of great moments and memories for our family and keeps me connected to the community.
I'm pleased to have been voted as a new board member for Pathways Forward, which supports mental health initiatives in Dauphin County. Sarah and I both feel good about being able to give back to causes that support young people.
This area has deep roots for me and my family, and we're proud to call the Hershey area home!
