Cozy up with Cocoa Kitties

Kendra Daub was born to raise pets. Ironically, as a child, her parents didn’t allow her to keep pets until she convinced them to get her a gerbil. As Kendra grew up, got married and had her own children, her passion for fostering was also born. What started as fostering moms and kittens from the Humane Society turned into a full-time position and lifelong dream.

Kendra worked with Operation Paws of Hope for a few years and loved the work they did. However, she felt strongly that she could do things her way. Cocoa Kitties was born June 2022.

Cocoa Kitties rescues cats throughout Central PA. Kendra and her team have dozens of calls weekly. Her goal is to get stray felines off the streets. Kendra works with Derry Township Community Cats (of which she is also the Board President), who does TNR for Hershey. In the rescue world, TNR means Trap Neuter Return. This is the preferred method for humanely stabilizing and reducing free-roaming domestic feline populations. If Kendra is driving by a large farm with farm cats, she will provide TNR services for free to keep the counts of roaming cats from skyrocketing.

In 2024, Kendra and her volunteers rescued 295 cats or kittens, providing immediate medical treatment, mandatory shots, spaying/neutering, and shelter. Despite all her efforts, Cocoa Kitties has already rescued 295 cats this year (as of August) and sees that potential number increasing to over 350 by the year’s end. Manpower, food, medicine, and financial resources are the most important needs Kendra and her team have to continue to rescue and save through Cocoa Kitties.
