Threads of Hershey: Meet the Women behind The Method
The Brilliantly Simple Style Method You Didn't Know You Needed
For this issue, we caught up with Kristen Campbell, owner and founder of Threads of Hershey, to talk about the Threads Method and the impact the business makes in the community. Kristen graciously answered questions and shared insights about their new book and the tools they use to help their clients get dressed in five minutes or less.
Kristin Argento, Threads of Hershey co-owner, has been focusing on her recovery and health after a series of strokes. Together, their shared vision has shaped Threads of Hershey into more than just a styling service—it’s a movement built on confidence, community, and connection.
Tell the readers of Greet Hershey a little bit about Threads.
Threads really started with a simple question: why do so many of us have closets full of clothes and still feel like we have nothing to wear? I kept seeing stylish friends and family members struggling with that issue. They had great taste but no real system for making their clothes work for them. I started helping people clean out their closets, put outfits together, and shop with more intention. Pretty quickly, I realized that style was about more than just clothes. It was about confidence, mindset, and showing up for yourself in a new way. In 2014, Threads of Hershey was born out of a passion for helping people feel their best. In 2019, my long-time friend Kristin Argento (also known as KJ) joined Threads. Now everything we do now is built around the Threads Method: editing unwanted items from your closet, styling looks that fit your lifestyle and personality, and shopping strategically. It’s simple, repeatable, and it completely changes how people feel about getting dressed.
Describe your working relationship? Why does it work?
KJ and I have known each other for almost 30 years, and our friendship is truly the foundation of Threads. We have been through just about every season of life together—KJ even introduced me to my husband over 20 years ago. When we decided to go into business together, it felt less like starting something new and more like channeling our shared strengths into helping others. KJ’s professional experience is in marketing and communications, but her skills go well beyond strategy and messaging. KJ leads Threads with empathy, intuition, and connection. She has a rare ability to read people, understand how they want to feel, and help them express that through what they wear. Her emotional intelligence and high style IQ make her a natural at helping clients rediscover confidence through their clothes. I was born with an eye for style, at least that is what my mother and father tell me. I have a natural ability to spot trends before they emerge, and I can envision someone’s personal style long before they can see it themselves. I also believe that having structure and a clear process, like the Threads Method, is what creates real and lasting change.
How are you positively impacting the lives of the women you assist?
Most of the women who come to Threads are in some kind of transition. They may have just retired, received a promotion, had a baby, lost weight, or stepped into a new chapter of life. They’re open to change and ready to embrace the best version of themselves. What they often discover is that their closet can be the catalyst for that transformation. Once they start editing what no longer fits (physically or emotionally) they make space for new confidence and energy to come in. We love to see clients rediscover themselves and have a renewed sense of confidence, purpose, and joy.
Why is the work you do so important?
We have seen firsthand how a well-curated closet can spark real change. When our clients feel good in what they’re wearing, it shows. They move differently, think differently, and approach life with energy and self-assurance.
Share the ‘behind the scenes’ on your book, “Threads Method."
Where do we even start? Writing this book was a big goal for us, but we had no idea just how much time, mental energy, and even expense it would take. We were incredibly lucky to have several talented friends and experts to help us shape our ideas and tell our story—Josh Kesterson, Jasmine Brooks, Keri Brill, and others. Without them, this book still wouldn’t be complete. In the end, it took almost three years and countless hours around the dining room table, hammering out what we hoped would be a helpful guide for our clients near and far. It was challenging, sometimes exhausting, but also incredibly rewarding. Every chapter, every insight, every story was written with the goal of making the Threads Method accessible, practical, and inspiring. If we can help even one person feel more confident in their clothes and in themselves, it was all worth it.
How are you growing and expanding your services?
In addition to our styling and shopping services, we are deeply committed to professional development and community engagement. We lead training and educational sessions for professionals in industries like real estate, banking, and hospitality, helping them use style as a tool for confidence and success. We also partner with schools and university Career Centers to equip students with the skills to dress for their future careers. Community engagement is another meaningful part of Threads. We regularly donate clothing to Allison Hill Community Ministry, a community-based organization that provides a wide range of support services to the Allison Hill neighborhood in Harrisburg. We support local nonprofits by donating our styling and shopping services for fundraising events in Hershey and beyond.
As a Hershey business and Hershey residents, why is the community so important to you?
As both a Hershey-based business and Hershey residents, community is at the heart of everything we do. Hershey is more than just where we work--it is also where we live and raise our families. We believe that our success is intertwined with that of other businesses in Hershey. By fostering collaboration and supporting one another, we strengthen our community and create shared success.
What makes Hershey so unique?
Hershey is unique because of the way the community comes together to support one another. From world-class healthcare and excellent schools to beloved local businesses and the iconic amusement park, the town offers a remarkable quality of life. It's also the people who make Hershey special. There’s a shared sense of pride and connection here that you can feel everywhere, making it not just a place to live, but a community.
Tell us more about your WHY--the families behind KK & KJ.
Family is everything to us. Between the two of us, we’re proud boy moms with five boys in total! It’s safe to say basketball runs deep in our families, so if we’re not in a closet working with clients, you can probably find us cheering from the sidelines on a field or court. KJ’s oldest son, Jack, is a senior at Wilkes University, where he plays basketball. Her younger sons, James and Dom, both play for Hershey High School. My youngest son, Brooks, also plays for Hershey High, while my oldest, James, is a freshman at Case Western Reserve University, where—no surprise—he’s continuing the basketball tradition. When we’re not busy with clients, we love spending time together with our families. Hanging with our kids, sharing meals, and simply enjoying life in Hershey keeps us grounded and grateful.
What words of advice can you offer?
When you take the time to edit what you own, style looks, and shop thoughtfully, you create a wardrobe that makes you feel good every day. Feeling comfortable and confident in your clothes helps you stand taller, speak with ease, and connect with others from a place of authenticity. That self-love is at the heart of being styled for life.
