Salt--The most healing element on the planet. Whether it’s from the ocean, sweat or tears or in food. Anytime we experience a version of salt, we can heal and shift: shift the emotion and energy that lives within. Letting salt flow freely or with force; streaming from our eyes or sweating from our skin. Each moment with tears and pain is a step forward and welcome.

SALT (as an art gallery) has been a dream since the womb. As a young girl, all I ever wanted to do was draw and color everything in sight. I majored in 2D design at the University of Texas. This art career path took a detour as I married young, moved across the country, and had babies back-to-back. Being a stay-at-home mom was the best choice for our family at the time. My dreams on hold.

12 years and a divorce later, I am a vastly different woman. I am more aligned with who I am and I’ve realized that my dreams never changed. I still want to paint and share art with the world. There was a moment when I broke into a thousand pieces. At my lowest, I found yoga. Or yoga found me. Often, I would soak my mat with tears and sweat. Movement. Tears. Sweat. Repeat

Resistance eventually built resilience. The tears and sweat created strength and clarity. I stopped saying no and started to notice. I wrote a letter to my future self with a list of dreams and outcomes. Within the next few weeks, a small space on Chocolate Avenue fell into my lap. A big fat NO came out of my mouth. How will I have time? In the depths of my soul, I knew this space was meant to be and precious to let my dreams take root, but I still said no. Until I didn’t. I signed the papers and cried. Every moment has a purpose. Every moment led me here.

SALT: Space for Art, Love and Togetherness. A gallery named after my favorite thing. A space to flow freely, as you are. Yes, this is an art gallery, but it will be a space for the community to connect. A long-term vision to share ideas and experiences through multiple artistic mediums: music, poetry, paint. I want to open these doors to change how we think, to un-learn everything. A place where rules don’t exist when it comes to expression. Adding a little SALT to the sweetest place on earth seems like a good place to start. I can’t wait to meet you.
