Right Where She Was Meant to Be

How Meghan of Lewis Vaughn Interiors grew organically from one historical renovation into a sought-after residential design studio.

For Meghan Lewis of Lewis Vaughn Interiors, a successful and fulfilling career in residential interior design feels like kismet. Growing up in Boston and then living in New York City, she never imagined ending up on the coast, but from the moment Meghan set foot on the South Shore, she was immediately drawn in by its charm. “I love the feel of it — the old architecture, the beaches. It feels like being on vacation.”

Before settling in Duxbury, Meghan had been working in corporate interior design in Boston. She has a degree in Psychology with a concentration in Art History from the University of Vermont and took Interior Design classes at Parsons in NYC. A move back to the Boston area led her to switch to the Boston Architectural College, where she pursued a degree in Interior Design. She worked full-time at CBT Architects as a Corporate Interior Designer and took classes at night. The training and workload were intense, but Meghan knew she was exactly where she was meant to be.

“I love the creativity, from the patterns and colors to space planning.” Figuring out puzzles and problem-solving is something Meghan excels at. “Working with clients through the nitty gritty, whether it’s furnishings or fabrics, rugs or window treatments — it’s such a collaborative process.”

When Meghan moved to Duxbury after her daughter was born, the opportunity to shift from corporate to residential design unexpectedly materialized. She wasn’t anticipating the change, but it happened in such a wonderfully organic way that it felt like fate. “I was renovating an old ship captain’s home, and the community was very interested in the project.” Once they saw Meghan’s talent for design in play, people began asking for help with their own homes, and the word spread across the South Shore.

Lewis Vaughn Interiors was born from this word-of-mouth communication. Satisfied clients love to spread the word about working with Meghan, and she has found recurring business from many of them. “Success,” she says, “is a happy client. It’s also when a client is so satisfied with the work I did on one project that they hire me to do a second.”

The reputation that Meghan has built with Lewis Vaughn Interiors is unparalleled. Oftentimes, she is trusted to complete full-service luxury jobs. For example, a client building a new home might not have the time to be involved. Meghan will handle the entire design project, and when the client first sets foot in the home, everything will be perfectly complete. From books in the bookcases to art on the walls, Meghan doesn’t miss a single detail. “The reaction they have when they walk in and see their home for the first time is amazing.”

Another thing that sets Meghan apart from the competition is that she doesn’t have a set style. “I design to the architecture, the landscape, the location. It makes things more interesting!” She doesn’t follow trends and would describe her approach as “classic with a little something unexpected." She loves to travel and finds design inspiration wherever she goes. “The colors and tiles of Morocco, the hotels and restaurants of Paris — I love bringing these details to my projects.”

Speaking of details, every one matters when it comes to design. Meghan advocates for having a plan early-on to get the right layout and aesthetic. There are so many decisions to be made, whether it’s a single room or a full-scale project, and that’s where Meghan’s expertise and experience make all the difference. So if you have a design project in mind, be sure to consider Lewis Vaughn Interiors!
