Did you grow up in this area? If not, what spurred your move?
We did not grow up in this area, but my parents did! My mom was born and raised in La Grange Park and my father in riverside. My great grandmother lived in La Grange and walked to her church (Grace Lutheran) every Sunday - or so they tell me. My parents were then married at Grace Lutheran church well over 50 years ago. We celebrated their 50th anniversary there renewing their vows. While this wasn't my hometown, the stories have always made it feel like home.
How long have you lived in this community? What drew you to the area? In what ways are you involved in the community?
We moved to La Grange in 2017. When we were leaving the city, Lincoln park, this town spoke to us. We were waiting for our realtor (9 years ago) at Starbucks in downtown La grange, and there were Christmas carolers out front. This was the moment I knew I wanted to raise my family in La Grange. We are involved in the community through the school and sports.
What is your favorite part about living in La Grange?
We love the walk ability of La Grange. We can get anywhere we need walking 15-20 minutes. We go to the library often and find it to be a great place. We have made some wonderful friends who have become family since moving here. Summers are the best! Our neighborhood comes alive!
Do you have any unique family traditions?
Not unique, but we take advantage of all of the offerings La Grange has. We love the Christmas walking fest with Santa arriving on a fire truck. We look for all of the skeletons at Halloween time and love sitting on the lawn outside of the town hall on farmers market days.
If you have kids, with what activities are they involved?
Dylan loves anything with a ball! He loves LFC flag football more than anything. Right now he is in basketball through the park district and baseball with crush getting ready for summer little league season to start. Talia is into theater and is park of the upcoming play at western springs theater. She is also involved in the choir at school. Talia is a Lyons swim team swimmer and has been for 2 years now and is loving volleyball through the Max. Both enjoy art club as an after school activity. Staying very busy these days.
What is one of your favorite family memories?
One of my favorite memories was when we had first moved here and the kids were very young. We showed up to go on the Metra Polar Express ride. I hadn't bought tickets ahead of time, but we all showed up in our Jammie's. Unfortunately we were not able to get on, so we walked across the street to the post office to get our passports. The kids took their pictures in their Pajamas and now every time I look at their passport I am reminded of this day. While it was not how the day was planned, we made the most of it and I love the result.
