Margie believes that seniors are never too old to learn and improve. She is a longtime member of “Olli,” Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and has taken advantage of its many learning possibilities. In addition, she takes advantage of Lafayette’s Acalanes Adult Education opportunities, which cover a wide range of academic fields.

Her favorite “Olli” class is Michael Fox’s “Bay-Area Documentary Filmmakers,” where the students see an original documentary film each week and can ask the filmmaker about what went into its making and enjoy and learn from the senior student’s interaction.

Margie grew up in Endicott, NY, and came to California for the first time when IBM transferred her dad to San Jose. After high school, she enrolled in San Jose State College (now a university), majored in sociology, and minored in English. Margie moved back to New York and, in 1980, returned to California and chose Lafayette for its convenient location, friendly citizens, and nice climate. She attended St. Mary’s College, became a paralegal, and is in the process of retiring from her part-time legal work. 

Thinking of their future, Margie and her husband, Sev, joined Lamorinda Village and participated in a few activities. After losing her younger sister, its support group, “Turning Point,” helped her through the grief and is also supportive of her as she deals with her brother’s dementia.
