Beyond the Classroom with Matthew Behrman
A Glimpse into the Life and Teaching Philosophy of a Dedicated Educator
How long have you been in education, and what is your teaching style? I have taught all 8 years at forest lane academy, and I teach early childhood-6th grade physical education and health. I am very calm, and I lead by example. I would never ask something of my students or teach something that I couldn’t model myself.
What is your favorite part about teaching? My favorite part is watching the kids grow from kinder all the way till they become big 6th graders. I also enjoy the relationships I build with my students and getting to see them even as high school students make me so proud.
Do you have a role model in education? My mom/step dad/wife are all or were (my parents are retired) in education. I would say my favorite quote about teaching is: “Success doesn't come from what you do occasionally, but what you do consistently.”
Where might we run into you outside the classroom? I am a father of two girls aged 3 and 2. I love to play basketball, soccer (wife and I are on the same team) and golf. I also enjoy barbecuing/cooking and love to read whenever I have the time. I also enjoy gardening and helped start a school garden at our school with no budget. I love anything BBQ. Love going to Gloria’s and mi cocina. Love all things Dallas sports (rangers, cowboys, mavericks, fc Dallas) definitely run into me at the golf course or the JCC playing basketball.
