Journey from Freshman Rower to Varsity Captain

What is your sport and how long have you participated in it? I have been a rower since my freshmen year. I am honored to be our team captain this year and proud to have earned my varsity letter. I row with Dallas United Crew and we practice at White Rock Lake.

Who inspires you?
My coach inspires me to give 100% when I practice and compete.

Have you met anyone famous in this sport? Arshay Cooper

Where have you gotten to travel to because of this sport? I've had the opportunity to travel to Seattle, San Diego, Oklahoma City, Sarasota, Cincinati, Boston, Austin, and Waco.  \My favorite trip was to Boston for the Head of the Charles regatta, which is the largest regatta in the world. There are over 11,000 teams competing and 400,000 spectators.

What awards have you won? Under 17 Women’s 8: 2022 Texas State Champions; 2022 Central Region Champions; Youth Rowing National Champions (18th place). Women’s Varsity 8: 2023 Central Region Champions. Women’s Straight 4: 2023 Central Region Champions; Youth Rowing National Champions (8th place).Earned varsity letter 2023. Varsity Captain 2023 – 2024

What life lessons have you learned from participating in this sport? Time management, commitment, perseverance, and giving 100% to my team.

What is your favorite part about this sport? At the end of a race, when we're all tired and we've worked really hard as a team, I love reflecting back on what we've just achieved.

What are your favorite sports teams?
Cowboys, Texas Longhorns

What is one tip for someone looking to get into rowing? 
Don't give up!  Although it's really hard, it's very rewarding and opens up a lot of collegiate opportunities.
