Jennifer Piepenburg

18 Years of Educational Passion

How long have you been in education?
I am a Kindergarten teacher at Lake Highlands Elementary. This is my 18th year in education. I have taught in RISD for eight years and nine years in Colorado. I started at O. Henry Elementary in RISD. I have taught in special education pre-k to 6th grade, as a reading interventionist, 4th grade, 5th grade, and 1st grade in the general education setting.

What is your favorite part about teaching?
My favorite part about education is building relationships with my students, getting to know them, apply their interests into our learning, and observing the excitement they get while learning.

What is your teaching style?
My teaching style is building strong and safe relationships with my students and I want all of them to love to learn. I want them to know they are welcome, loved, and a part of our community. I want my students to take ownership in their class and their learning.

Do you have a role model in education?
My role model is Dr. NaKaydria Johnson. I learned so much from her while we worked together for two years.

Where might we run into you outside the classroom?
I have the most wonderful husband, Jeff, and two daughters as well as LHE alums, Lauren and Sarah. I love to read, walk with my two dogs, travel, and spend time with friends and family. I love Tony's Pizza & Pasta, Vector Brewing, White Rock Coffee, Whataburger, and Shady's. I love to shop at Target, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts!
