Lake Highlands' Anime Enthusiasts: The Collins Family's Unique Tale
Meet Chanda and her dynamic trio of daughters who infuse art, music, and community spirit into their Lake Highlands home.

This October we are happy to introduce a family that embodies the spirit of unity, creativity, and warmth. Meet the Collins ladies: Chanda, the accomplished executive with a penchant for writing and wine, and her dynamic trio of daughters – Kenley, Ellery, and Bellamy. Together, they weave a rich tapestry of life in our beloved neighborhood, cherishing traditions, forging connections, and leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Chanda, a devoted mother and a seasoned professional with 27 years of experience at AT&T, has called several cities home before settling in Dallas in 2013. She currently holds an executive role focused on long-term strategy and assessments. Beyond her corporate life, Chanda finds solace and passion in a myriad of interests. She enjoys spending quality time with friends, indulging in the art of quilting, immersing herself in audiobooks via Audible, and even sharing her wine adventures through the Vivino app under the moniker "@chandeauxcollins."
Eleven-year-old Kenley illuminates Lake Highlands Elementary as a sixth-grader. With her talents extending to the world of music, she's been selected for the Richardson All District Choir and has embraced the bassoon. Beyond her melodious pursuits, Kenley finds joy in anime, and artistic expression through drawing, crafting delectable Bento Box lunches, and nurturing her linguistic skills in both Spanish and Japanese.
Ellery and Bellamy, the charming twins of the Collins family, aged 8 and currently in third grade at Lake Highlands Elementary, are a dynamic duo that brings boundless energy and creativity to their household. Their shared adventures include outdoor escapades on scooters, sidewalk masterpieces created with colorful chalk, refreshing swims at the Elks Lodge, quality time with friends, and the launch of a virtual book club this past summer.
Skittles, the Collins' feline family member, plays a pivotal role as the household's pet and care nurse. This loving companion joined their family five years ago, making a homecoming from the East Lake Cat Care Center. Skittles is often found perched on laps, nestled beneath dining chairs during family meals, requesting treats with endearing meows, or providing soothing purrs to those in need of comfort.
Their journey in Lake Highlands began in 2013 when Chanda and Kenley first arrived. Quickly, they discovered the warmth of extended family, rekindled old friendships, and forged new ones within the community. Before Lake Highlands, Chanda's educational path led her through Trinity University for her undergraduate degree and Incarnate Word for her graduate degree. Originally hailing from Houston, but moving during her teenage years to Sugar Land, Chanda brings a rich tapestry of experiences to our neighborhood.
At the heart of the Collins family's traditions is their cherished game night, a Friday evening ritual that welcomes friends to partake in board games and laughter. Their current favorite, "Herd Mentality," promises hours of entertainment. The family also enjoys poolside Rummikub sessions at the Elks Lodge and outdoor movie nights on their front lawn or in the side yard, inviting neighbors to share in the cinematic experience under the stars.
The Collins family's passion for anime resonates throughout the household, with "My Hero Academia" holding a special place in their hearts. The girls are avid video gamers, experts in various Nintendo Switch games, and enthusiasts of K-Pop, embracing the musical vibes of Blackpink, NCT, CL, BTS, XG, and EXO. They also treasure their weekly virtual family dinner, a digital connection with family members from Dallas, Sugar Land, and New York City, which serves as a cherished tradition that transcends geographical distances.
Community involvement is a cornerstone of the Collins family's life, primarily through their active participation in Girl Scouts. All three of the Collins girls are engaged in Girl Scouts across two troops, #7802 and #4115. Chanda serves as a co-leader for Troop #4115 and contributes to the Northeast Texas Girl Scout STEM Center Advisory Council.
What the Collins cherish most about Lake Highlands is its close-knit and welcoming community. With an abundance of local attractions like the Perot Museum, the Arboretum, and the Discovery District, there's never a shortage of things to do. And, perhaps less known to their neighbors, Chanda holds a treasure trove of fascinating stories from her adventurous pre-mom years, making her a captivating storyteller.
For newcomers to Lake Highlands, the Collins family offers sage advice: embrace the community's friendly and active nature. Don't hesitate to say hello, strike up conversations with passersby, and join in the warmth and camaraderie that define this wonderful neighborhood. Whether it's gathering for game nights, enjoying anime together, or sharing in the joy of virtual family dinners, the Collins family exemplifies the spirit of togetherness that makes Lake Highlands a truly special place to call home.
