Kindergarten to Class of 2023!

Soccer Stars Maddie Hastings & Allie Delgado

Maddie Hastings & Alexandra "Allie" Delgado are newly minted graduates of Lake Highlands High School with very bright futures at their fingertips. Rewind the tape, these girls met in Kindergarten at Wallace Elementary and have been a pair to be reckoned with since then, both on and off the field.

From Youth Soccer at the YMCA and Club Soccer teams, through four years on LHHS Girls Varsity Soccer, their work ethic is unmatched and their accolades are proof, so we just had to know more about these best friends.

Have you met anyone famous in this sport/activity?
Maddie: Not really, but I would love to meet Carli Lloyd.
Allie: Not really... my brother has played for Chad Deering for the past two years, who played with the US Men's National Team.

My favorite tournament:
Maddie: My favorite tournament was in Vegas, I’ve been three times and it was always so fun!
Allie: Club tournaments to Las Vegas, Galveston and Austin. With LHHS, I had a blast at the Houston Showcase.

What awards/honors have you won?
Maddie: Academic All-State: 21, 22, 23; Honorable Mention All-City & All-District: 22 & 23
Allie: Academic All State: 22-23; Academic All-City: 22-23; Academic All-District 7-6A Award: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th; Honorable Mention All-City and All-District in 10th & 11th grades; Lake Highlands Girls' Soccer Coach's Boot 2022-23, selected by Coach Micah Knorr.

What life lessons have you learned from participating in the sport/activity?
Maddie: I’ve learned to take the wins with the losses, just like in real life. Nothing easy happens without hard work.
Allie: The importance of supporting each other through disappointments. It's not always about the win.

One tip for someone looking to get into soccer?
Maddie: Work hard & have fun! Don’t take things too seriously!!
Allie: Work hard and be coachable.

Favorite part of the game?
Maddie:  I’ve loved the friendships I’ve made through soccer. Most of my best friends I’ve met on my various teams. Soccer fuels my competitive spirit and I love working as a team to tackle a goal! Soccer has given me the opportunity to push myself physically & mentally while also developing my leadership skills in the role as captain of LHHS Varsity.
Allie: I love playing the game. Mostly, I love the friendships I have formed and the art of discipline and teamwork I have learned that I have carried with me to other aspects of my life. Celebrating each other's achievements, on and off the field.

Both Maddie and Allie have been accepted to prestigious Honors Programs in the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, each selected as one of only fifty students accepted to their respective Honors Programs. That is no small feat, but finishing 3rd and 17th in their graduating class of 610 students, it's no wonder they are destined for more wonderful things!
