Veronica Bullard - Elementary Teacher Of The Year!

Illuminating the path of educational excellence, we introduce Veronica Bullard, a teacher whose commitment, enthusiasm, and unwavering dedication have earned her the esteemed title of the Texas PTA Elementary Teacher of the Year. With nearly two decades of teaching experience, including 16 transformative years at Lake Highlands Elementary, her influence on students and the community is truly immeasurable. While her roles have encompassed Campus Reading Specialist, Dyslexia Therapist, and teaching various grades, her impact goes beyond mere titles.
Guided by a comprehensive understanding of educational science, she holds a Masters in Reading and Writing and is a certified Academic Language Therapist and Licensed Dyslexia Therapist. While she underscores the foundational importance of the science of teaching reading, her teaching philosophy is equally marked by an artistic touch. This entails fostering a love for literature, nurturing a safe learning environment, and embracing the concept of a growth mindset. These facets form the core of her teaching style.
Her conviction in the transformative power of literacy is palpable. The moment a child decodes their first word, curiosity, excitement, and determination sparkle in their eyes, fuelling her passion for education.
What she treasures most in teaching is observing her students evolve academically and emotionally. She places immense value on the journey of growth, the embodiment of a Growth Mindset, and the tenacity that paves the way for success. Working closely with parents, she recognizes the crucial role of collaboration in achieving set goals.
Beyond the classroom, her camaraderie with fellow teachers has blossomed into an invaluable extended family. The unity among her peers stands as a testament to the supportive and nurturing educational environment she contributes to.
Her guiding light in education is her mother, Octavia, a former college professor in Venezuela. She instilled the wisdom of embracing each individual's unique gifts, approaching challenges with empathy, and fostering a compassionate mindset. This philosophy shapes not only her teaching methods but also her approach to life, serving as a constant reminder of the untapped potential within each student.
Outside of school, she cherishes time with her family. Her 12-year-old daughter, Isa, is poised to embark on her journey at LHJH, while her 10-year-old son, Thomas, flourishes at LHE. Her husband, Sam, a Realtor in the area, stands as her steadfast partner in life's journey. Amidst life's hustle, she seeks solace in audiobooks during workouts and indulges in the exhilarating sport of pickleball with her loved ones.
Her community involvement is marked by favorite spots that bring joy—happy hours at Mi Cocina/Taco Diner/Lochland's, shopping at The Store, and savoring treats at Squishies and Andy's. Her presence radiates beyond the classroom, as she immerses herself in the vibrant tapestry of Lake Highlands.
As we honor this exceptional educator, let us celebrate her legacy, for she is a torchbearer of knowledge, an advocate for growth, and a true testament to the transformative power of education.
