Lindsey Altmeyer: The Woman Behind The 2024 Run

A Glimpse into Volunteering, Leadership, and the Heartfelt Impact of Run the Highlands

Lindsey Altmeyer has been a member of Lake Highlands Junior Women's League (LHJWL) since 2020. She served on the Fundraising committee her first year, contacting local businesses about sponsorship opportunities, and on the Run the Highlands Committee the last two years, assisting with logistics. This year, she is serving as Chair of Run the Highlands, overseeing the planning and execution of the Run.

In regards to Lindsey's work with The Run the Highlands Committee, she is responsible for ensuring that every detail of the Run is well-planned and executed, including permitting, participant registration, coordinating logistics, and orchestrating the games, vendors, and activities for the post-race carnival. However, every member of LHJWL contributes to the success of Run the Highlands, from the Public Relations Committee promoting the event and encouraging attendance, the Fundraising Committee seeking participation from local businesses, Philanthropy directing the use of the funds raised to projects that directly benefit Lake Highlands, and each and every League member that volunteers on race day hosting the community at this beloved annual event. Typically Lindsey and other members spend about 1-2 hours a week preparing as the run gets closer. However, most positions require less than an hour a week to make sure all women have a change to be involved.

The Lake Highlands Junior Women's League has been a cornerstone of community engagement since its founding in 2004. Boasting a membership of over 125 individuals, this non-profit organization has raised more than $1.2 million for the Lake Highlands community over the past 18 years.

At the heart of LHJWL's mission is the desire to create a social organization where young women can establish roots and relationships while leaving a positive impact on the community. Signature events like "Light Up the Highlands" and "Run the Highlands" have become staples, drawing the community together in celebration.

"Run the Highlands" is not just a race; it's a community celebration. This annual event, featuring a 5K race, a family trail walk, and a post-race carnival, serves as a significant fundraiser for projects benefitting Lake Highlands. The collective effort of the entire league ensures the success of the event, from public relations and fundraising to the dedicated volunteers on race day.

Mark your calendars for April 27, 2024, as Run the Highlands takes center stage. Starting at 8:00 am, the event promises a day of fitness, fun, and community spirit. The start/finish line, located between Lake Highlands High School and the LH North Aquatic Center on Church Street, sets the stage for a memorable experience.

The Lake Highlands Junior Women's League stands as a beacon of community unity, showcasing the power of collective effort in creating positive change. As the organization continues to grow and thrive, it exemplifies the impact that dedicated individuals can have when working together for a shared cause. We look forward to seeing everyone at the starting line!
