Joe Caldwell

White Rock Elementary, Special Students Services

How long have you been in education?
I have taught in the general education classroom in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I have taught Special Education Inclusion/Resource for the past three years. Two of which have been at WRE. Prior to WRE I was at Aikin Elementary, which is also in RISD.

What is your teaching/leading style?
I try to alter my teaching style to meet individual student needs and learning styles.

What is your favorite part about education?
It is very rewarding to give students who oftentimes don't have an opportunity to experience a great deal of academic success in the general education classroom the chance to shine in a smaller setting where instruction is more individualized and targeted to their needs.

Do you have a role model in education?
Helen Keller said that " The highest result of education is tolerance." I think we all need to understand that each one of us, even those who are different, are important pieces in the larger puzzle that is life.

Tell us a little about your life outside the school.
I love my work, so I struggle with balancing it with my home life. I do, however, enjoy spending time with my family and friends when possible.
