Lake Highlands High School Cross Country
Both teams meet their goal and make it to regionals!
The boys and girls cross country teams began their 2023 season on August 1st. With heat temperatures at an all time high, it was extremely tricky getting acclimated to the weather and the demands of training on their bodies. The team did an amazing job staying hydrated and made sure they were running at the high intensity needed to hit a common goal of making it to regionals by the end of the season.
We had a renewed mindset and ramped up our mileage more so than any other years before. We had a group of team members who trained really hard all summer and put in some amazing miles coming into the season at an all time high. This would prove to change everything for us.
By the time district rolled around we were sitting in a really good spot to get both teams out. The girls were sitting third behind Highland Park and Pearce. For the boys it could be anything. The boys throughout the season at one point or another had beat Highland Park, Pearce, and Jesuit. The district meet was going to be one that they would have to work as a team for a common goal. The boys ended up placing third behind Highland Park and Pearce. Both the boys and girls would go to the Region 1 Championship meet in Lubbock, Texas.
The regional course at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, Texas is no easy feat. It is tough. It’s hilly and dusty and the air in west Texas is different. However, both the boys and girls performed at their very best and that is all I could ask for. We may have not had any personal best that day but to have both teams there was a huge accomplishment for Lake Highlands. We had a goal this season for both teams to make it to regionals and we did just that!
