Meet Leonardo Di Caprio: Lakewood’s Four-Legged Heartthrob!
An Exclusive Interview with Leo, the Pet of the Month
Hi Leo! Can you tell us where you came from and how you ended up with your family? Woof! I was rescued from a local group in Fayetteville, NC. My early life was pretty tough—I had never met another dog or even been on a walk until I was 2.5 years old. But everything changed when I found my forever home. My new family had just lost their first dog, and after my mom had a dream about an adult golden doodle needing a home, they heard about me through a neighbor. It was meant to be!
Is there a story behind your name? Oh, definitely! My full name is Leonardo Di Caprio because I’m such a dreamboat, or so my family says. I have a special fondness for women, which might be because of my past, but now I'm showered with love and care.
Do you have any special talents or quirks? I absolutely LOVE balls! I often hide them from myself and then go on little treasure hunts around the house. Sometimes, I even throw them for myself to chase. It’s my favorite game!
What do your humans like best about you? They love that I’m a big cuddler. Despite my rough start in life, I’m super affectionate and love sitting as close to them as possible. I even think I’m a lap dog, even though I weigh 60 pounds!
What’s your favorite toy and activity? Walks! Just hearing the word “walk” makes me shake with joy. I head straight to the front door and wiggle until my leash is on. It took me a while to get used to walking on a leash, but now I’m the most enthusiastic walker you’ll ever meet.
Do you have any funny stories to share? One time, my humans tried to go running with me for the first time. I was so excited that I grabbed the leash in my mouth and started doing bunny hops. They had never seen me so happy! Now, I try to join anyone we see jogging on our walks. I also love to sleep on the pillows on my human's bed. One time, my dad even got a stye because I tooted on his pillow too much (oops!).
Is there anything else we should know about you? I have a sister, a pyredoodle named Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and I love her very much. We have so much fun together!
Thanks for getting to know me! If you see me around Lakewood, feel free to say hi—I might just bring you a ball to play with!
