Hunter Henzler's 12 Years of Impact

From the Classroom to College Graduations—How One Educator is Shaping Lives Beyond School.

Q: How long have you been in education?
Mr. Henzler: I’m currently in my 12th year of teaching—time really flies! Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach a variety of subjects, including all levels of Math from 6th to 12th grade (primarily Geometry, Statistics, and Financial Math). The last two years I have had the privilege of being the AVID Coordinator and AVID 2-4 teacher at Woodrow.

Q: What’s your teaching or leadership style?
Mr. Henzler: My goal is to empower my students and assistants, helping them develop leadership skills. I believe in creating an environment that nurtures growth and independence.

Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?
Mr. Henzler: Having a positive impact on my students is the reason I got into education. It’s incredibly rewarding to stay connected with former students. The last few years have been especially humbling when I've been invited to college graduations & weddings of former students. Seeing them succeed in life is what makes it all worthwhile.

Q: Do you have a role model in education, or a quote you live by?
Mr. Henzler: I’ve been lucky to have amazing teachers and coaches growing up, like Michael Brooks and Gaylon Selman, who showed me that you can be both an excellent teacher and build strong relationships with students. As an educator, I’ve learned so much from Chad Terry, Laura Springer, and John Fish. They always focused on putting students first. And, of course, my mom—who worked in my hometown's School District for decades—has always been an inspiration with her grace and love for kids.

Q: How do you balance work and life outside of the classroom?
Mr. Henzler: My wife is an ER nurse, and since we both have intense jobs, we’re intentional about supporting each other when we get home. She’s an amazing "coach’s wife" and is always there to support our students, whether at a football game, track meet, or school musical.

Q: Where can we find you outside of the school?
Mr. Henzler: We love St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin, Tacos La Banqueta, and Jimmy’s. When I’m not at Woodrow events, you’ll likely find me watching the Atlanta Braves or enjoying a concert!
