February is the month of love, and we are so thankful to get to share local stories each month to support the local love of Lakewood! This month we introduce the vibrant Agan-Preissler family – a delightful bunch with a shared love for the neighborhood they call home. Meet Ashley and Marcelo, the dynamic duo, both seasoned professionals with a deep connection to Lakewood.
The family consists of Dr. Ashley Agan, an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist, and Marcelo Preissler, a Senior Portfolio Manager, who are not only making waves in the medical and financial world but are also adding a touch of warmth and compassion to the local community. With their two-year-old daughter, Penelope, this family embodies the essence of life, work, and play in Lakewood.
Originally from McKinney, Texas, Ashley's journey has been one of academic excellence and leadership. Majoring in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, she then pursued her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. A dedicated faculty member at UT Southwestern for seven years, Ashley's commitment to healthcare education culminated in an Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. In March 2024, she's set to launch Scottie, Dallas's first concierge ENT practice, redefining patient care.

Marcelo grew up across the street from the original Fogo de Chao steakhouse in Porto Alegre, Brazil. In 1997, Marcelo's family embarked on a life-changing move to Texas as his father was recruited to assist in opening the very first Fogo de Chao in the US. As a teen, Marcelo was captivated by the film "Varsity Blues," which surprisingly mirrored his experiences in his new Texan high school. Upon realizing Dallas’s proximity to the ocean would not be conducive to a surfing career, he developed a profound passion for skateboarding and even earned sponsorship from Fast Forward Skate Shop.
Post-graduation, Marcelo embarked on a study abroad adventure in Italy, where he added Italian to his list of languages, already boasting fluency in Portuguese and Spanish. His academic journey took him to the University of Texas at Dallas, where he successfully earned a degree in International Business. He went on to work in a financial services firm and is currently a Senior Portfolio manager within the Strategy and Analytics division. He has remained an integral part of the company for over 11 years, showcasing his dedication and expertise in his professional endeavors.
The Agan-Preissler family moved to Lakewood two years ago, instantly embraced by the community. Penelope, their holiday-season gift (born just 2 days before Christmas), brings boundless joy. Her love for Toy Story, baby dolls, and colorful block towers fills their home with laughter and curiosity.
The family's weekends revolve around outdoor activities, from biking around White Rock Lake to playing soccer. Penelope, already a little traveler, enjoys international trips and has a special fascination with the neighbor's cats. Ashley, apart from her medical pursuits, finds solace in gardening and hosts the Backtable ENT podcast.
Ashley's community involvement extends to a Walk with a Doc chapter, promoting healthier lifestyles. The Agan-Preissler family appreciates Lakewood's warmth, proximity to the lake, and charming houses nestled among mature trees.
Their advice to new Lakewood families: "Get out and meet your neighbors. Lakewood is full of fun and friendly people!"
