The Farris Family: A Legacy of Community and Connection in Lakewood

The Farris family, with their deep-rooted history and vibrant presence, epitomizes Lakewood’s heart and soul. From cheering at sports events to leading community initiatives, their commitment is unwavering. Let's explore their remarkable story.

Meet the Farris family, a vibrant and deeply rooted part of the Lakewood community. Led by parents Lauren, and Davey, the family includes their three energetic boys: Wesley, 12, Wright, 8, and Truett, 4. With a rich history and a strong sense of community involvement, the Farris family epitomizes the spirit of Lakewood.

Lauren grew up in Lakewood, moving away only briefly to attend The University of Texas, where she proudly cheers, "Hook 'em Horns!" After college, she returned to her hometown, restoring and renovating several historic homes, including a Dines and Kraft gem on Westlake Avenue. Today, the Farris family resides in their beautifully remodeled "forever house" on Avalon, continuing a legacy of love for the neighborhood.

The Farris family thrives on community involvement and a love for sports. Wesley, the eldest, is passionate about flag football, basketball, and baseball, eagerly anticipating his return to the pitcher's mound this year. He will also be learning to play the trumpet, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, as part of his new electives at Travis TAG.

Wright plays on multiple baseball teams (the Lakewood Bombers and the Lakewood Haymakers) and football teams (the Lakewood Honeybadgers and a team through the SMU league), showcasing his enthusiasm for all things sports. Truett, the youngest, enjoys swimming, soccer, and t-ball, embodying the family's athletic spirit even at a young age.

Lauren, a realtor with Compass, balances her professional life with extensive community service. She is deeply involved with the Lakewood Elementary PTA and the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA). Her dedication earned her a lifetime membership award from the PTA. She has chaired the LECPTA auction, planned adult events like Mahjong, Bingo, and a wellness event, and was the Adult Events co-chair for LECPTA. She also serves as the Lakewood Elementary secretary and sponsors the annual PTA popsicle stand at the end of the school year. Additionally, Lauren and her business partner sponsor a home on the LECPTA Home Tour each year.

Davey, the national sales director for Kulzer Dental, also commits significant time to community activities. He is actively involved in Friends of Lakewood (FOL), planning the Lakewood Elementary yearly fall fest haunted house and acting as a leader amongst the dad crossing guard sector. Like Lauren, Davey received a lifetime membership award for his contributions to the PTA.

The Farris family treasures their traditions, especially the Lakewood 4th of July parade, a beloved event since Lauren was five years old. Now, her boys are creating their own memories, riding on floats and celebrating with neighbors at her parents' house on the parade route. Their weekends are often spent at White Rock Lake, enjoying the serene beauty of the area.

For new families moving into Lakewood, they have this advice: "Embrace our front porch culture and get involved! Take a stroll through our tree-lined streets, enjoy the lake, and participate in local events like the 4th of July parade and the Lakewood fireworks show." They also recommend exploring Lakewood's fantastic restaurant scene, highlighting favorites like Sister, Urbano, Smoky Rose, and Jimmy's.

In every aspect of their lives, the Farris family embodies the close-knit, supportive, and lively spirit of Lakewood. Their story is a testament to the power of community and the joy of deep-rooted connections.
