The Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA) has been a cornerstone of the East Dallas community since 1952, enriching the lives of local children and offering support to families. The organization’s mission is rooted in fostering connections between families, promoting effective parenting, and providing vital financial support to neighborhood schools. At the helm of LECPTA’s incredible efforts are three remarkable women—Jacki Pavlick,
Whitney Huffman, and Shelby Dolson—whose leadership, passion, and dedication drive the organization’s success.

Jacki Pavlick: Championing Community Connections
As the 2024-25 LECPTA President, Jacki Pavlick dedicates an astounding 20-25 hours a week to the organization, especially during the busy home tour season. For three years, Jacki has been a driving force in coordinating events that strengthen bonds between Lakewood families.

"One of our most important goals is to provide opportunities to build connections in our neighborhood," Jacki explains. Under her guidance, LECPTA offers numerous programs designed to promote happy families, effective parenting, and financial support to local schools. Her tireless commitment to creating opportunities for families to connect and grow has made a lasting impact on Lakewood, both inside and outside the organization. Jacki’s passion for building a supportive community is evident in every aspect of her role as President.

Whitney Huffman: The Visionary Behind the Auction Party
As this year’s Vice President of Auction Party, Whitney Huffman plays a critical role in one of LECPTA’s most important fundraising efforts. With four years of involvement in the organization, Whitney has shown relentless dedication to planning and executing the Auction Party coming up on Friday, November 8th. Her responsibilities range from soliciting donations to managing venue logistics, ensuring that every detail is accounted for.

"I’ve planned all facets of the event," says Whitney, reflecting on her commitment. Her meticulous attention to detail and passion for maximizing the event’s success are crucial to ensuring the Auction Party raises the funds needed for local schools. For Whitney, LECPTA has been more than just a way to volunteer—it’s become a way to connect with new families and make lifelong friends. Her leadership showcases the profound impact one person can have on the community.

Shelby Dolson: Leading the Way for the Home Tour
With eight years of involvement in LECPTA, Shelby Dolson has held various leadership roles, including Home Tour Chair. This year, she serves as Vice President of Home Tour, where she dedicates around 20 hours a week to her volunteer efforts. Shelby’s work organizing the Lakewood Home Tour—a beloved neighborhood tradition—plays a vital role in fundraising for the local schools.

"Events like the Lakewood Home Tour create a sense of community," says Shelby, emphasizing how the funds raised from the tour help support the schools and their programs. Shelby’s deep-rooted commitment to both LECPTA and the Lakewood community makes her an invaluable asset to the organization. She encourages others to get involved, whether through volunteering or attending the Home Tour, as a way to give back and make a difference.

The dedication of Whitney, Jacki, and Shelby will be on full display during the 47th Annual Lakewood Home Tour, scheduled for November 9-10, 2024. This event, presented by Comerica Bank, will showcase beautiful homes while raising vital funds for Lakewood’s public schools: Lakewood Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School.

Ticket options include a Daytime Weekend Pass for $40, a Candlelight Tour ticket for $55, and a VIP Candlelight Tour option for $95. The tour hours are 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, with the Candlelight Tour scheduled for Saturday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Each ticket purchase includes a home tour guidebook to enhance the experience.

Whether you’re attending the tour or volunteering to support the event, it’s an opportunity to be part of something special while contributing to a stronger future for local schools. As Shelby says, “Volunteering for the Home Tour is an easy, fun way to dip your toe in,” so don’t miss out on this chance to make an impact and celebrate Lakewood’s community spirit.
