Exploring Snowmass

Where did you go? How long were you there? Our family goes to Snowmass, CO every winter and summer!

Who was on the trip with you? Chris' parents have a house here and sometimes we go just the 5 of us but many of our trips include the whole extended family of cousins/nieces and siblings/aunts/uncles!

As experts to the area, what are recommendations you have for others planning a Snowmass vacaion? There are so many fun things to do in this area - like many of the Colorado destinations!

Summer: Many hiking and nature walk paths, Gondola ride up in Snowmass village where there's a rock climbing and mountain coaster as well as a ropes course. The weekly rodeo in Snowmass is also a fun outing! And of course, exploring and walking around the town of Aspen is a great activity since it's only 20 min drive down the road.

Winter: Skiing is the obvious activity of choice but there is also a (free!) ice skating rink in Snowmass Village. You can also ride the gondola up to do the mountain coaster in the winter or go Tubing. In late January, they host the X Games - which is on our bucket list (to watch in person).

Do you Fly or Drive? We usually fly (the drive is 17 hours with no stops!)

Do you have any recommendations on places to eat/drink? There are so many good places to eat and drink!

Snowmass: Stewpot is a great place for warm and delicious soups and stews. Tasters is a must for pizza (the eggplant rollatini is also a fave!). Il Poggio is a great Italian restaurant. Base Camp Bar and Grill for apres ski.

Aspen: White House Tavern is a great lunch spot and Paradise Bakery is our favorite for cookies, muffins and gelato in the summer! Our favorite 'nicer' restaurants are French Alpine Bistro, Due Mani, Ellina, and 316 Steakhouse.

Any recommendations for others interested in taking a similar trip? If you're traveling during any high season (spring break, new years), definitely make reservations. While we love skiing, summer is such an amazing break from the HOT Dallas weather.

Any other great travel plans coming up? This summer, we are headed to visit family in Florida, the Outer Banks beaches in North Carolina, and Mexico.
