Meet MIHS Soccer Star Hannah Savoy
Hannah Savoy is a dedicated and talented soccer player who has shown remarkable growth and resilience throughout her journey in the sport. From her early days of playing recreational soccer to competing in the prestigious girls ECNL league, her passion for the game and unwavering commitment to improvement is truly inspiring.
Early Beginnings and Team Progression:
Hannah began her soccer journey at the age of 3 or 4, under the guidance of her first coach—her mother. Those initial years in recreational soccer laid the foundation for her skills and love for the game. After three years, she transitioned to a select soccer team for two more years, showcasing her growing talent and dedication. In fourth grade, she tried out for PACNW SC and has been a proud member ever since. Starting from the bottom team for her age group, she quickly ascended to the top team within two years. Her hard work and determination have now led her to compete in the girls ECNL league.
High School Achievements:
Her high school soccer journey has been equally impressive. Making the varsity team as a freshman was a significant milestone, but it didn't stop there. By her junior year, she had earned the role of team captain, a position she continues to hold in her senior year. Playing primarily as an outside back, she has demonstrated versatility by having played almost every position throughout her soccer career.
Career Highlights and Challenges:
When asked about the highlights of her soccer career, Hannah shared, "Playing defense can be very challenging mentally because the mistakes you make result in goals most of the time. I overcame this by reminding myself that the game isn’t over and I will make up for those mistakes on the next play." This mindset has been crucial in her development as a player and a leader on the field.
Balancing Academics and Athletics:
Balancing academics and athletics is no small feat, especially during the soccer season. She emphasizes the importance of good time management, hard work, and focus. "I try to finish all my work at school or at least before practice to avoid super late nights. It is very possible to play a competitive sport and still do well in school," she advises young athletes.
Support System and Training Regimen:
The role of coaches and teammates in her development cannot be overstated. "Having supportive teammates and coaches who are willing to help is so important. I would not be where I am today without the coaches I have had," she acknowledges. Her training regimen is rigorous, both in-season and off-season, reflecting her commitment to continuous improvement.
Staying Motivated and Handling Pressure:
Her love for the game is a constant source of motivation. Even during tough times or losses, she finds joy in playing and uses setbacks as a drive to work harder. High-stakes games and crucial moments are handled with confidence in her skills and the effort she has put into her training.
Goals and Future Aspirations:
Looking ahead, her goals for the season include making it her best one yet and leading her high school team to the playoffs. On a personal level, she aims to find a college or university where she can continue playing soccer after graduation.
Memorable Experiences and Lifelong Friendships:
Soccer has not only been a sport but also a significant part of her life outside the field. It has provided an outlet and built lifelong friendships. "Soccer has always been such an outlet for me. No matter what was going on at school or at home, being with my teammates and playing has always made me happy," she shares.
Advice for Aspiring Athletes:
To younger athletes aspiring to excel in soccer, her advice is clear: "Start training as much as you can now. Start lifting weights, perfecting your footwork, work on shooting, etc. This will help you so much in the future because you will never look back and wish you would have put more work in."
Hannah’s soccer journey is a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and hard work. She embodies the spirit of a true athlete, constantly striving for excellence and inspiring those around her.
