Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Old Fashioned

Just in time for the state fair, we bring you a twist on one of the classics. Meet the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Old Fashioned! Enjoy on a big rock or add to a hot apple cider on a cool autumn night. Sit around a bonfire and reminisce about fair rides and apple orchard visits. Cheers and welcome fall!
 
 
Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Old Fashion 
1.5 oz Bourbon - Recommended: Old Fitzgerald 4 Year Bourbon or Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey
0.25 oz Laird’s Straight Apple Brandy Bottled in Bond - optional
¼ oz Apple Pie Syrup – see recipe below
2 dashes orange bitters
2 dashes cardamom bitters
Orange twist to garnish
 
Apple Pie Syrup
4 Apples (Gala or Honeycrisp) - small cubed
3 cups Apple Cider
1 cup water
1 orange, peeled (optional)
6-10 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
¼ ground nutmeg
¼ ground allspice
 
  1. Add apples, apple cider, and water to a large saucepan. On medium-low heat, simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Add the spices and orange peels and continue heating for 10 more minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat, then strain out the apples, orange peels, and spices.
  4. Return the liquid to the pan, add the turbinado sugar, and heat on low. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  5. Allow syrup to cool, store in an airtight container, and refrigerate.
