Shining a Light on Community

Mill Creek Little League celebrates new field lights at Willis Tucker Park.

Mill Creek Little League and the greater Mill Creek community gathered in celebration this fall as the long-awaited field lights at Willis Tucker Park Ballfield #2 were officially switched on for the very first time. What began as a multiyear partnership between Snohomish County Parks, Musco Lighting, the Washington Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO), and Mill Creek Little League has now become a reality—bringing expanded opportunities, evening play, and new energy to one of the area’s most beloved youth sports spaces.

During a warm and spirited dedication ceremony, county leaders, community members, and Mill Creek Little League families honored the late Chris Langsea, whose tireless service helped bring this project across the finish line. As MCLL’s longtime VP of Operations, Chris was known for his hard work, his humor, and his unwavering commitment to the families and players he served. A commemorative plaque installed at the field reflects that legacy, honoring his years as a coach, volunteer, and friend to many.

While the ceremony acknowledged Chris’ impact, the event itself was focused on the joy of community — celebrating a project that will benefit youth athletes for generations to come. Families lingered after the dedication to watch the first game played under the new lights, a moment that felt both symbolic and hopeful. The illumination now allows for more flexible scheduling, increased safety, and more accessible year-round play, especially during the darker months. This exciting upgrade comes on the heels of an extraordinary year for Mill Creek Little League, including the standout achievement of the 12U Girls Softball team, who earned their way to the Little League World Series. While that milestone has been celebrated in depth in previous issues, it bears repeating that MCLL continues to shine brightly—on and off the field—thanks to devoted volunteers, dedicated families, and talented young athletes.

As Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers shared, "This project represents a commitment to brighter, safer access for youth sports and year-round healthy activity.” For Mill Creek families, that promise now shines across Field 2—lighting future memories, future victories, and future generations who will proudly call MCLL home.
