Mill Creek Women's Club Celebrates 40 Years
Original Member and Club Historian, Debby Cox.
The Mill Creek Women's Club has certainly come a long way in its 40 years! It's impressive to see how the club has evolved and adapted to the changing times while maintaining a strong sense of community and purpose. The dedication of its members is truly commendable.
The club has gone through many changes over the years according to Debby Cox, the club historian and one of the original members. Debby remembers the first meeting was held on July 27th, 1983 and the luncheon was $6.00/person. In 1983 the city of Mill Creek made up a much smaller area. There were no schools except for Silverlake Elementary, trees were where the town center is currently located, and Murphy’s Corner consisted of a 4-way stop sign. The rest of Mill Creek was not built.
As the city has grown, the club has maintained its reputation as a place where members can enjoy friendship through socializing, philanthropy, and volunteering. There are many ways for members to get involved. It's fascinating to think about the transformations over the years, from its humble beginnings with 86 attendees to its current 127+ members, and the technological shift from phone reservations to online sign-ins.
There has also been an increase in philanthropic efforts. Our philanthropy in the early days consisted of hand delivering a holiday meal to a family in need to currently fundraising over $40,000+ from 2022 to 2023. This is a testament to the club's commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
The variety of activities and programs offered, from special interest groups to fashion shows, dance programs, and informative meetings, highlights the diverse interests and talents within the club. It's heartening to see the continuity in social activities, creating a sense of tradition and shared experiences among the members. And let's not forget the resilience shown during challenging times, including the two or more years of navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic with Zoom meetings. That adaptability speaks volumes about the strength of the club.
We want to congratulate all the women who have been part of the Mill Creek Women's Club over the years. Their dedication, energy, and ambition have truly allowed the organization to thrive and celebrate this incredible 40th anniversary! We hope you will consider joining us for the 2023-2024 season. The membership fee is $65.
