A Love of Making People Smile leads to Moonlight Peak Parties!

Q&A with Mill Creek Resident, Kerry Sewell

Greet Mill Creek: Tell us a little about yourself.  Where did you grow up and what brought you to Mill Creek, WA?

Kerry: I was adopted at birth and spent most of my younger years living in beautiful, sunny Carlsbad, CA. School was always a challenge for me academically. My parents always supported me and helped push me through even the hardest times.

I moved to Seattle in 1993 where I attended SPU and received my degree in Early Childhood Development.  I became a teacher in 1997 at The Highlands School in Shoreline, WA.

Joe and I moved to Mill Creek in 2006 knowing that Mill Creek Elementary School was looking good on our radar for a family in the future. We are so glad we did! We won the lottery when it came to neighbors and MCE!

Greet Mill Creek: Tell us about your family.

Kerry: Joe and I will be married for 17 years this coming October. He finds a lot of joy in cooking, and he gets pretty excited about that 18lb. brisket that has been smoking all day. He works for Trader Joe’s and has always been dedicated to his career. Having a job in retail definitely makes things difficult at times. We are often ships in the night for about 4 months every year when he does work weekends. It is hard, but the silver lining is the special one on one time I get with our 12-year-old daughter. Joe is my best friend, and I couldn’t do this crazy life without his love and support.

We have a sweet, creative, animal loving and awesome 12-year-old daughter, Molly Joe.  Her softball teammates call her ‘Mojo’. Molly Joe loves to help me shop for all the vintage finds for my photo stage I create for parties. She has helped with balloon arches and even made a video about MPP she added to my Instagram page.

My parents also moved from Carlsbad, CA to Mill Creek, WA. I know they miss the sunshine in the winter, but being closer to their granddaughter is worth it!

Greet Mill Creek: What inspired you to start Moonlight Peak Parties?

Kerry: Over the past 25 years I have thrown over 130 parties for children & adults. I created and hosted annual events like The Monster Mash, Christmas /holiday events and over 20 Mother’s Day Tea Parties at The Highlands School. I always received positive feedback on my fun, magical, memorable, and festive events. Why couldn’t I do this on my own and not just at school?

I also love spending time on Pinterest finding new DIY projects. My craft room always inspires me because I always keep it filled with materials for almost any project. Making gifts for friends, neighbors and family has always brought me joy. Since the beginning of this new adventure, the smiles and happiness created by Moonlight Peaks by my customers is by far the greatest reward.

Greet Mill Creek: How do you market your business? Where can we learn more about Moonlight Peak Parties?

Kerry: Marketing for a business in 2024 is not at all like it used to be. You have to be savvy on social media and you have to post, share, tag, etc. This is something I really struggle with and hope to find some extra support.
