Covering All the Bases!

Dave Osburn, one of our Greet Magazine business partners, is a Wealth Management Advisor and Senior Vice President at Merrill Lynch. He is the Senior Resident Director at the Merrill Lynch office in Downtown Everett. He was just named to the Forbes “Best in State Advisors List” for the fourth year in a row. One of Dave’s current roles in the Mill Creek community, in which he finds great satisfaction, is Player Agent on the Board of Directors of Mill Creek Little League (MCLL) – and he is also currently the head coach for his twin sons’ MCLL Minors baseball team. Passionate about both sports and coaching, Dave also coaches his sons in YMCA basketball and NFL flag football.

Describing his approach to coaching, Dave sets out the three core values he teaches all his teams. “First, be early and be prepared,” he explains. “Second, always hustle, and third, be a good citizen and treat your teammates, parents, friends, and teachers respectfully both on and off the field. On our baseball team when someone strikes out, they say to the on-deck batter 'pick me up', and that batter up next says 'I’ve got you'.”

Dave attended high school in Mountlake Terrace and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Washington Bothell. His wife, Jill, grew up nearby in Mukilteo and also attended the University of Washington. He and Jill now have nine-year-old twin boys, Will and Drew, who are students at Cedar Wood Elementary School. Dave feels blessed to have had his own family a bit later in life. “Jill and I didn’t even meet until 2012 when she had a busy attorney career and we were already in our 40’s, and now I'm married with two amazing kids and am having so much fun with them. I’m grateful for everything,” he says.

In his current role as Player Agent for MCLL, Dave handled registering approximately 650 kids for tee ball, softball, and baseball, and put together all the various teams. “At the older levels there is a draft system, but at our younger levels kids can still 'buddy pick' and 'coach pick' in order to play with their friends," he shares.

The Mill Creek community means so much to Dave and his family. He and Jill actually had their first date at the Town Center Starbucks and decided very early on that they wanted to buy a home in Mill Creek. “It has all the feel of a small town with a close community, beautiful parks, good schools, and great friends,” he says. "What's so special is how tightknit the Mill Creek community is. It has that feeling like most everybody knows everybody, and in the Town Center, you’re always running into people you know.” In addition to his coaching contributions to Mill Creek Little League and the Mill Creek YMCA, Dave is a member of the Mill Creek Chamber of Commerce, and his company within Merrill Lynch, Osburn Wealth Management, sponsors local events including our Summer Music Concert Series and our Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. He notes that all his sponsorship money and community involvement is focused on Mill Creek.

For 25 years Dave has been looking after the financial needs of his clients and their families. “Planning for the future is not about money,” he concludes. “It’s about our kids, parents, extended families, and the entire community around us. Yes, money is important as a function of how we move around in society, but if you put money over everything, it never works out right. Technology, including AI, is important, but it’s the human connections that matter. The most important decisions need to be made by two or more people just talking to each other.”
