Kids Fun Run at Party in the Parks

The City of Mill Creek is gearing up for an exciting summer with its Kids Fun Run at the Party in the Parks Event at Freedom Field on Thursday, June 27th. This event, a beloved Mill Creek tradition at Heatherwood Middle School for many years, is returning.

Scott Harder, part of the two-person team that organizes all the city's events, is thrilled to bring back this fun-filled race. As a long-time Mill Creek resident and avid runner, Scott remembers taking his own kids to this event. "Our residents love supporting activities like this because it's a fun way to spend time with friends and neighbors, enjoy the sunshine, and give our kiddos a taste of a race without the pressures of larger running events," said Scott. "We're especially excited to bring the Kids Fun Run to Freedom Field at Mill Creek Sports Park," said Scott. It's one of the city's most popular parks and is rented nearly year-round by organizations for recreation programs, teams, and leagues for their practices and games. Individuals can only enjoy the field during off-peak hours, typically during school or winter. "Holding our Party in the Parks events here allows our entire community to enjoy the field for a little while during the summer months," said Scott.

Looking back at the past Kids Fun Run events, Jody Hawkins, the other half of the city's events team, shares the excitement and community spirit that this event fosters. The Kids Fun Run is not just a fun activity but a powerful tool to connect with Mill Creek families and build a sense of community. "A key part of our role for the city is to create events that align with the city's vision to 'provide an exceptional community experience that brings people together,' and the Kids Fun Run is a wonderful example and one we're eager to continue!" said Jody.

This event has something for everyone--activities, music, food, games, and prizes. Except for the food trucks, the event is entirely free to the community thanks to the generosity of our sponsors including JL Remodeling, Stellar Kids Dentistry, Community Transit, Chris Jones—State Farm Insurance, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Town & Country Markets, Starbucks, and Greet Mill Creek magazine.
